Sometimes we watch sitcoms solely to tune into the romantic relationships on these shows. We often ask ourselves, “will they or won’t they?”. (Usually, they will). Whether it’s Ross and Rachel on Friends or Jim and Pam on The Office, sometimes watching these couples evolve and fall in love is the best part of the whole show.

Yet sometimes there are shows that create couples that just don’t work. What are some of the best sitcom couples? What about the ones that make no sense to us? Read on to find out our favorites and least favorites!

10 PERFECT TOGETHER: HOLLY AND MICHAEL (THE OFFICE)

Holly and Michael are by far one of the sweetest couples in TV history. Their relationship is the definition of pure, and although both of these characters are in their 40s, their love feels as though they are both experiencing the sensation of romantic adoration for the very first time.

It’s so nice to finally see Michael win for once, and he never has to worry about looking like a fool in front of Holly because Holly loves him just as he is. It really doesn’t get much sweeter than Michael and Holly’s unbreakable relationship.

9 MAKES NO SENSE: ROBIN AND TED (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER)

Warning: Spoilers for HIMYM finale!

Although we understand that Ted has been pining after Robin for a solid decade, enough time has passed in their lives to prove that Robin was never as invested in the relationship as Ted was. Over and over again, it became clear that they wanted completely different things out of life and romance. Ted wanted to settle down and have kids with Robin, while Robin wasn’t in the place to settle down and she didn’t even think she wanted to have kids.

She wanted to travel the world and focus on her career, but this didn’t coincide with Ted’s desires. It was made evident on the show that she was meant to be with Barney, a man who had the same needs as her, but at the very last minute they divorced, Ted’s wife died, and Ted and Robin ended up together. It all just seemed too forced to feel like a natural connection.

8 PERFECT TOGETHER: ANDY AND APRIL (PARKS AND REC)

Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate are perfect together on Parks and Recreation because they seem to live in their own universe that is filled with excitement and fun. They never lose their affection for one another and their relationship doesn’t ever falter. Although their personalities are completely different, this only works to benefit their relationship because they are able to learn from each other’s differences and can lift each other up because of it.

7 MAKES NO SENSE: ANN AND TOM (PARKS AND REC)

We wanted to love Ann and Tom’s relationship on Parks and Recreation, we really did, but we just couldn’t fall for it. There wasn’t all that much chemistry between the two and it always felt as though Ann was embarrassed to be with Tom. It seemed as though their relationship went nowhere and did nothing to add to their character development. It just happened, and then it was over. Luckily, they were able to stay friends afterwards, but they felt a bit more like siblings to us than a romantic match.

6 PERFECT TOGETHER: RACHEL AND ROSS (FRIENDS)

We had to include Rachel and Ross on this list because they are each other’s lobsters, after all. We love this TV couple because even if they go through instances of miscommunication (they were on a break!), as Rachel puts it, they are “never off the table”.

Basically, they are destined to be together and the best part is, their relationship is based on friendship. It is a beautiful moment when Rachel gets off the plane in the end, to be with Ross. We knew throughout the series that they were meant to be together, and seeing it finally work out for them is extremely rewarding.

5 MAKES NO SENSE: FEZ AND JACKIE (THAT 70S SHOW)

Many people were extremely disappointed with the way things turned out in the final season of That ’70s Show. For one thing, Eric Foreman was no longer on the show, and neither was Michael Kelso. Another reason people were not satisfied was due to the fact that Jackie Burkhart ended up with Fez. The whole series focused on Kelso and Hyde as her love interests, so when she finally chose Fez in the end, it seemed to come utterly out of nowhere. Nothing was really leading up to their relationship so there was really no payoff whatsoever when it finally happened.

4 PERFECT TOGETHER: ANDY AND HALEY (MODERN FAMILY)

Andy and Haley were the perfect match on Modern Family, which is why most fans were extremely disappointed when she ended up with Dylan instead. Not only was Andy the kindest boyfriend to Haley, but he also helped her evolve into a better person. She wanted to be better because of him, and this showed. Haley and Andy might not have been the most expected pairing, but that’s ultimately what made them so great. Their attraction for one another was out of their control and the passion they had for each other was beautiful to watch unfold.

3 MAKES NO SENSE: PETER AND LOIS (FAMILY GUY)

Peter and Lois are a headscratcher of a couple on Seth Macfarlane’s animated sitcom Family Guy. Although this series is intentionally unrealistic, (the baby is an evil genius and the dog can talk), one of the least likely elements of the show is the relationship between Peter and Lois. It is amazing how these two have stayed together for so long even though Peter is consistently terrible to her. Men on the show are constantly throwing themselves at Lois, and Peter never seems to appreciate her, so it makes no sense to us that she would put up with his stupidity for as long as she has.

2 PERFECT TOGETHER: JESSIE SPANO AND AC SLATER (SAVED BY THE BELL)

Although most people are quick to claim that Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski are the greatest couple on the ’90s sitcom Saved By the Bell, we believe they were a bit too predictable of a match for our taste. Jessie Spano and AC Slater, on the other hand, were a much more exciting match because their romance was totally unexpected- yet somehow it worked. The chemistry between these characters was off the charts, and they helped each other become better people. They were constantly challenging each other, and Slater helped Jessie loosen up, while Jessie helped Slater become more progressive and open-minded.

1 MAKES NO SENSE: JOEY AND RACHEL (FRIENDS)

The relationship between Rachel and Joey seemed to come completely out of nowhere on Friends. Their romance felt extremely forced and it seemed more like a plot device than an actual loving connection. We all knew Rachel and Ross were meant to be, so the episodes with Joey and Rachel just felt extremely unnecessary and did nothing to add to the story.
