This newfound fame can lead former stars of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette to become trapped in their own bubble, resulting in them losing touch with reality and being labeled as ‘cringey’ by fans. Other times, photos and posts from their pasts can resurface, proving to viewers that they should not actually be influencing the public but rather learning and growing in a more private manner.

Madison Prewett

Peter Weber’s runner-up Madi Prewett made headlines after her first one-on-one date with the pilot for commenting a compliment on her own Instagram photo.

Madi seemingly praised herself on the picture of her and Peter having dinner, saying that she loved how “genuine and real” she was. Fans on Reddit then mocked the Auburn native for not only publicly admiring herself but also likely running a separate Instagram fan account, as detailed by Refinery29. Fans were divided on Madi as the season went on, and remain unsure of her motivational speaking aspirations post-show, finding her “inspirational” tweets to be ingenuine.

Luke Parker

Luke Parker seemed to be Hannah Brown’s frontrunner for most of season 15 of The Bachelorette until he found out that she had slept with other members of her final four, something he considered to be a dealbreaker.

It wasn’t Luke’s personal views that made fans dem him out of touch with reality, but rather the fact that he shamed Hannah for the way she chose to live her own life and have intimate relationships. Luke’s transition from fan-favorite to villain and inability to accept Hannah for who she was as a person made him seem out of touch as well unlikeable to the audience and to the Bachelorette herself.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. & Lauren Burnham

Arie Ludendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham weren’t everyone’s favorite couple when they got engaged on After The Final Rose, especially because fans had just seen Arie get engaged to and then dump Becca Kufrin just minutes prior in one of The Bachelor’s shortest engagements so far.

They raised eyebrows once again when they created an Instagram account for their unborn twins, writing public messages from the point of view of mom and dad, but also from the perspective of the babies. Documenting their pregnancy journey was one thing, but doing it in such a cringe-worthy way was another when they could’ve kept a lot of it private and not profited off of their yet-to-be-born children.

Hannah Brown

Hannah Brown was a fan-favorite when she competed in season 23 of The Bachelor, and she was celebrated for her awkward yet cheerful energy when she was the lead of the 15th season of The Bachelorette. After the season ended, however, she was rightly called out by Bachelor Nation fans for failing to be in touch with reality.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hannah posted a picture of herself to Instagram smiling with the caption, “There’s nothing more contagious than a smile.” Followers criticized her lack of sensitivity during a time when people were suffering (and dying) from the contagious disease, and she later altered the caption to clarify her statement. As reported by Insider, Hannah was also at the center of controversy once again when she posted an Instagram story of herself singing a song and saying the n-word at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Victoria Fuller

Victoria Fuller was labeled the primary villain on Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor, causing drama when her ex-boyfriend Chase Rice performed on her one-on-one date and being accused of partaking in several extra-marital affairs in her hometown.

Victoria’s past was called out once again as the season ended, with USA Today detailing how viewers found pictures of her modeling for a “White Lives Matter” clothing line, one that featured marlins and several photos of the confederate flag. She later apologized for her participation in the photoshoot, saying that she thought she was supporting an endangered species in marlins and never meant to be involved in anything promoting racism. For many, Victoria’s apology came too late and she was further criticized for her obliviousness.

Caila Quinn

Caila Quinn originally competed for the heart of Bachelor Ben Higgins, and later attempted a run of Bachelor In Paradise before getting engaged to her now-husband Nick Burrello.

However, Caila sparked controversy when she continuously posted about her wedding plans being derailed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans criticized Caila for not taking the virus seriously, traveling, and planning two huge weddings during a time when people were losing their lives and suffering financial hardships. Caila and her husband ended up eloping in May 2021 in a smaller ceremony than they originally planned.

Pieper James & Brendan Morias

Pieper James and Brendan Morias were both well-liked contestants on their respective seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, with many petitioning for Brendan to become the next Bachelor after self-eliminating from Tayshia Adams’ season. However, Brendan and Pieper were portrayed as the villains in the 7th season of Bachelor In Paradise for causing chaos on the beach by leading others on despite being linked together as a couple for months prior to the show.

Soundbites picked up proof that they wanted to join the spinoff to gain more Instagram followers, something fans took issue with as it called the integrity of the show into question and allowed Brendan and Pieper to take the spots of contestants who truly wanted to find love. The pair’s motives were deemed unfair and out of touch by fans, and it’s safe to say they’re not considered amongst the best Bachelor in Paradise couples.

Rachael Kirkconnell was Matt James’ clear front-runner on the latest season of The Bachelor, but the emergence of racially insensitive photos from her past made her strongly disliked and criticized by the public.

Pictures of Rachael attending multiple antebellum-themed parties had viewers questioning Rachael’s beliefs, with controversy continuing to rise the longer Rachael stayed silent about the photos. During the finale, Matt and Rachael parted ways but later reconciled, with Rachael gaining back nearly all the Instagram followers she had lost and continuing to get sponsorships despite a lackluster apology and offending many, as reported by Fox News.

Jade Roper & Tanner Tolbert

Jade and Tanner are one of the most beloved and memorable couples from Bachelor In Paradise, being a success story that has inspired viewers and fellow contestants alike to live up to the love that they found in the second season of the show.

However, in January of 2020, USA Today reported that Jade and Tanner were involved in a public scandal after colluding in a DraftKings contest, earning themselves a million dollars. The couple was later stripped of money, but Bachelor Nation fans criticized Jade and Tanner’s hugely dishonest actions, particularly given that the couple has a large net worth and high earnings already.
