JRPG fans have always had a taste for more obscure, poetically-titled games. And, if you’re JRPG fan, this one’s for you: a twin pack of underappreciated genre gems are making their way to Nintendo Switch next year.

Now, it’s safe to say that the PlayStation Vita just didn’t get a fair shake. During its launch back in early 2012 (December 2011 in Japan), the powerful little system promised to bring gaming experiences of home console quality to a handheld, and… well, that was a little too ambitious, to put it lightly.

At the same time, the system really did have impressive graphical grunt, alongside some formidable tech in that beautiful capacitive OLED touchscreen, Touch Pad on the back and so on. It just wasn’t utilised very well by Sony, resulting in inevitable failure against Nintendo’s mighty 3DS (well, not technically speaking) and a slow and less-than-dignified fading into the background.

Officially halting production in March 2019, the PlayStation Vita didn’t only leave a legacy of unfulfilled potential behind it — it also left great games. Some fantastic games were created for the plucky handheld, including the dark and grisly still-exclusive action RPG Soul Sacrifice and the original Gravity Rush.

In its twilight years, the system became known among fans as the home of a lot of fascinating JRPGs. Now, NIS America has confirmed that two lesser known classics, which previously appeared on the Vita, will be coming to Nintendo Switch next year.

As Destructoid reports, Saviors Of Sapphire Wings (Azure-Winged Chevalier, as Vita players may know it) is coming to the West for PC and Switch. Even better, it’s being packed in with Stranger of Sword City Revisited. Together, these two games constitute some of the finest examples of the dungeon-crawler genre you’ll find anywhere, and it’ll be great to see an audience larger than PS Vita owners (probably around 14 people in total, let’s be real) have a chance to enjoy them.

Stranger of Sword City previously launched for PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, as well as the Vita, but was one of the latter’s software highlights. The dungeon-delving double header doesn’t have a set release date yet, but will be coming out at some point next year.
