Acclaimed horror game Resident Evil Village has hit a new sales milestone just before the release of the Netflix series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. 2021 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for fans of the RE franchise, with not just the release of Village and the show, but also the upcoming Resident Evil RE:Verse multiplayer add-on, free for those who own Village.
Resident Evil Village has proven to be one of the biggest games of 2021 so far, wowing players with its mix of action and survival horror, and continuing the story of Ethan and Mia Winters, set up in Resident Evil 7. Capcom’s later entries in the RE series have seen mixed reviews from gamers, with Resident Evil 5 and 6 criticized for being too action-heavy compared to earlier games in the franchise. 2017’s Resident Evil 7 took this feedback to heart, offering more horror than action, and switching the series to the first-person perspective which was continued in Village. Resident Evil Village DLC has been confirmed, though no other details are known.
The latest adventures of Ethan and Mia have been a resounding success for Capcom, with Resident Evil Village now having sold more than 4.5 million copies worldwide. The milestone was shared by the Japanese Resident Evil Twitter account (via Metro), but that’s not the only cause for celebration. The new Netflix animated series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, is available on the platform from today, July 8. The CGI series follows Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who unexpectedly meet in the years after the events of the Raccoon City disaster. The duo find themselves “consumed by a dark conspiracy when a viral attack ravages the White House,” according to the official description.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness stars Nick Apostolides as Leon and Stephanie Panisello as Claire. Their voices should be familiar to players of the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2, as the actors also played the same characters in the game. The series stars Jona Xiao as Shen May, Ray Chase as Jason, Billy Kametz as Patrick, and Doug Stone as Ryan. Infinite Darkness isn’t the only CGI Resident Evil adventure on Netflix, as the streaming platform also includes the Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta movies. The CGI movies are widely regarded to be more faithful to the games than the live-action RE movies starring Milla Jovovich.
Those hoping for a lengthy new series to delve into might be disappointed to find out that unlike HBO’s 10 episode series for The Last of Us, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is just four episodes long. Each episode comes in at roughly 26 minutes long, making the entire show around the same length as each of the Resident Evil CGI movies.
