A millionaire is preparing to turn an entire island into a battle royale arena so that 100 lucky rich people can make their Fortnite dreams become a reality.

Battle royale-based games have well and truly taken the gaming world by storm over the last couple of years. If you have been living under a rock and somehow have not given one of them a try, the premise revolves around 100 people starting on a map and attacking each other until there is only one person left standing.

It’s a pretty simple premise, but one that is currently making the developers of games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends an incredible amount of money. You may have also noticed real-life homages to the game style at local paintball ranges and the like. Most of the time, that’s simply what it has always been with the word Fortnite thrown in there to grab people’s attention.

That’s not the case with this project, though. An unnamed billionaire is looking to host their very own 100-person battle royale on a private island. The idea was reported by Kotaku and its existence was confirmed via an advert on luxury website HushHush. The ad is for “talented gamemakers” who can basically help turn the island into a battle royale arena, and the job pays a tidy sum (almost $2,000 per day for six weeks).

Don’t worry, though, this isn’t all as sinister as it first appears. It’s not the workings of a crazed villain who wants to watch 100 people fight to the death on their private island. The participants will be equipped with “Airsoft guns, ammo, and touch-sensitive body armour,” so no one’s actually going to die. The ad actually states that they want the event to be as safe as possible so that it can become an annual occurrence.

While we imagine the entry fee is going to be quite high, the prize money for the winner has already been revealed: a cool £100,000, or $130,830. Aside from that, we know that the battle royale will take place across three days with 12 hours of competition each day. Honestly, although we won’t be able to compete in it ourselves, we hope this event is televised or streamed in some way. It’s basically The Hunger Games except nobody has to die.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite.
