Ricky Gervais’ latest Netflix original show has proved rather divisive amongst his fans. On the one hand, the show has become one of the most viewed shows on Netflix in the shortest period and has already convinced Ricky to break his own two-season rule regarding his own work. On the other hand, it has been considered less funny than his other work and its over-reliance on seemingly over-the-top sadness has been criticized.

Even so, the show has found a huge number of fans committed to the characters within. There is a lot we need to find out about the characters in season three; here are ten questions we have.

10 Are Anne and Paul Together?

A fan-favorite character throughout the whole of After Life was Anne. For the first season one, she didn’t exist in any context aside from the bench in the graveyard.

In season two, she moved around a little bit, with her final scene showing her walking off with Paul, the owner of the Tambury Gazette. We really need to know if these two widowers have started up a very wholesome relationship or not.

9 What Was Anne’s Younger Life Like?

We get fed flashbacks of Tony and Lisa all the time throughout After Life. In season two, this was expanded to include the likes of Tony’s brother-in-law and his wife, as well as Tony’s dad Ray.

Obviously, Anne didn’t know Tony until after Lisa died, so she isn’t going to appear in any of these historical videos. However, we’d like to know a little more about her life before the death of her husband.

8 How Is The Tambury Gazette Doing?

One of the most dramatic storylines surrounding season two was focused on the apparent decline of the Tambury Gazette.

The paper was about to be closed by Paul, who could make a lot of money by selling it. The result, of course, would be the loss of jobs around the entire office, which wasn’t exactly welcome news… When Paul was convinced not to sell up, the paper was given another year. How is it doing by season three?

7 Are Daphne And Pat Together?

Two of the most unexpectedly nice characters in After Life are Daphne and Pat. Daphne is a sex worker who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Tony, while Pat is a postman who starts off as a source of annoyance to Tony, before turning into a friend.

He set the two up, and by the end of the show, they were dating. Did anything come of those dates?

6 What Does Pat Get Up To In His Spare Time?

Like most characters in the show, Pat started his life as a character restricted to just one setting: the outside of Tony’s house. By season two, he was much more prominent and even decided to take a bath in Tony’s house.

What we don’t know, however, is what he actually does in his spare time. Where does he live? What does he do when he gets home from work?

5 Is Everyone Going To Move Around A Bit More?

As mentioned above, Postman Pat is only really seen outside of Tony’s house in season one. The same with Emma in the retirement home and Anne in the graveyard.

They all moved around slightly more in season two but were still centered on their main abodes. Will season three abandon this pattern and allow for each character to move around freely?

4 Are Tony And Emma Together?

Season one ended up with Tony and Emma seemingly forming a relationship that fell apart between seasons, with her not wanting to be with a man who can’t commit to her in season two.

However, the most recent season ended with the two seemingly being about to embark on a relationship-type-thing. Did it last this time?

3 Is Tony Still Suicidal?

Season one of After Life is centered on Tony’s superpower in which he can do whatever he wants because he could just kill himself if necessary.

He is getting a little better throughout season two, but the feeling is still there, as shown by the very final scene. Is this thought still present by the time we get to season three? Has Emma helped him get past it?

2 Will We Still See Ray?

One of the most heart-breaking (if totally predictable) moments in season two of After Life came when Tony’s father, Ray, died in his sleep.

He was a sympathetic character, but a hilarious one at that and fans are likely wondering whether David Bradley will reprise his role as Ray in flashbacks at some point in season three. As of right now, nothing has been announced.

1 Is The Dog Doing Okay?

Gervais is known for his love of animals, and in his promotion for After Life always made sure to reassure his audience that the dog would be okay by the end of the season. He also absolutely loves creating as much sadness as possible it seems, so we certainly wouldn’t put killing off the dog in season three past him…
