What Happened To Andy Dwyer After Parks & Rec Ended

What happened to Andy Dwyer after Parks and Recreation ended? The character played by Chris Pratt was in all seven seasons of the NBC sitcom, and the flashforward scene in the series finale might have hinted where Andy’s life was heading.

Andy was known as the lovable goofball in Parks and Rec. When the character was introduced in season 1, it was as the lazy and unemployed boyfriend of Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones). She was forced into taking care of Andy after he fell into the pit and broke both of his legs. That was the beginning of the end for Andy and Ann but he soon turned his sights to April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza). Opposites truly did attract in their case and their romantic relationship carried on throughout the series.

Andy also went through a multitude of jobs in Parks and Rec including but not limited to, the lead singer of a few bands, a shoeshiner, Leslie Knope’s (Amy Poehler) assistant, a security guard under his alter ego Burt Macklin, and the lead actor in the Johnny Karate Show. His time as Johnny Karate came to an end in season 7 when he willingly decided to leave Pawnee for April’s new job in Washington. During the Parks and Rec series finale time jump, Andy and April were seen discussing their thoughts about having children. On Halloween 2023, April gave birth to the couple’s first child, Burt Snakehole Ludgate Karate Dracula Macklin Demon Jack-o-Lantern “Jack” Dwyer. But what happened after Andy became a father?

For longtime Parks and Recreation viewers, it was difficult to imagine Andy becoming a responsible parent. The character was never the brightest of the bunch but he certainly matured over the years. He and April would tend to be spontaneous when it came to major life decisions, including their marriage. With that said, he was fiercely protective and didn’t have a bad bone in his body. It’s no question that he would have tackled fatherhood the same way.

Andy probably didn’t raise his son through traditional means but there’s no doubt that young Jack had his parents wrapped around his finger. Andy and April’s unique and eccentric behavior probably rubbed off on their son. They surely would have encouraged their son to be whoever he wanted to be in life. That goes for their second kid as well: the Parks and Rec finale revealed that April was pregnant with the couple’s second child two years after Jack was born.

Having Leslie, Ron (Nick Offerman), and the rest of the Parks and Recreation group involved would have surely been important to Andy, no matter how far they lived from one another. Whether that would have been making frequent trips to Pawnee or reuniting through other methods, they wouldn’t have gone long without seeing each other. Who knows, maybe Andy and April decided to move back to their old hometown when the kids got a little older.
