The furniture options in Animal Crossing: New Horizons seem varied enough to satisfy just about anyone, but one item continues to frustrate players – the ironwood kitchenette. While there seems to a bounty of kaiju statues, musical instruments, and toilets in any style you like, the simple ironwood kitchenette remains a highly sought-after item.

An all-in-one sink and countertop with a few drawers underneath, the ironwood kitchenette wouldn’t look out of place in an IKEA catalog. You might think an item like this would be ubiquitous, perhaps one of the first items to be given to a player, but that’s only half-true. The ironwood kitchenette is only obtainable through DIY crafting, and its recipe is easily bought from the cabinet in Nook’s Cranny. The components required for the recipe, however, are not so easily found. The recipe bought in the Wildest Dreams DIY kit requires a cutting board, an ironwood dresser, a few pieces of wood, and iron nuggets.

It’s these specific DIY recipes that make the ironwood kitchenette so coveted, described by sources spoken to by VG247.com. The player is able to find DIY recipes fairly often, through a number of methods. Recipes can be found carried by balloons floating across the island, washed up in bottles, falling from shaken trees, and a few other ways. The problem is that when the pool of possible selections is so large, it’s unlikely that you’ll find the recipe you’re looking for. The disappointment of an unwanted recipe stings even greater when the one you’ve found is a duplicate, as even the recipes given to you early-game can reappear.

What is it about the ironwood kitchenette that makes it so desirable? Maybe it’s the simplicity of it; the ironwood kitchenette is stylish yet just bland enough to fit in with whatever other furniture Animal Crossing has graced you with. The ironwood kitchenette is one of New Horizon’s customizable items, too, so it can be altered to have different wood constructions that change its color. Players who find themselves with other pieces of the ironwood set may also be driving up the demand for the kitchenette. Popular trading site Nookazon has seen prices of just one recipe for a component of the kitchenette rise to 500,000 bells!

The team behind New Horizons has recently adjusted appearance rates of some creatures, but it’s yet to be seen if they’ll adjust the drop rates for these slippery recipes. Until then, players will either have to continue struggling to find their dream recipe or fork over some serious change for the components of the kitchenette.
