A New fan-favorite met an old classic with one fan’s recreation of Pokemon Gold and Silver in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The combination of two of Nintendo’s most popular video games franchises is filled with details that fans of both games will love to check out.

YouTuber Hinotch uploaded a video to the website on April 14 showcasing a stunning adaptation of Pokemon into the world of Animal Crossing. The video showcases the customization features of the newest entry into the Animal Crossing series with textured terrain, fenceposts, and even images of Pokemon. Viewers can watch the player character fishing with Gyarados, or walking by Pokeballs in the grass.

The video shows the player exploring their Pokemon-inspired town, and the similarities are striking. The designer clearly worked hard on capturing the experience of traveling through the world of Johto on a Game Boy, but on a Nintendo Switch in an entirely different game. The fan-created all of the design tiles themselves, and even displays them at the end of the video. Design codes in New Horizons are able to be created and downloaded via the Able Sisters shop.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was only just released in the US on March 20, but it’s already an incredibly popular game. Many players enjoy the game for its ability to allow players to easily customize their towns and game experience. Other players have incorporated other popular franchises into their games, like a Twitter user who combined Animal Crossing with The Office.

Pokemon Gold and Silver were fan favorites within the Pokemon franchise, even earning themselves remakes as Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver in 2009. Still, despite the updated graphics of the remakes, many fans are nostalgic about their experiences playing the older games. The ability to recreate that nostalgia is part of what makes Animal Crossing so popular.

But players haven’t stopped at Pokemon. One player created and released codes that allow New Horizons players to download Blue Power Ranger costumes. There’s already a huge amount of resources and a great community for creating and spreading custom content and designs. New Horizons has become incredibly popular in a very short amount of time, in part because of how simple it is for players to express their creativity and personalize their islands.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
