There has been yet another tribute to Pokémon made using Animal Crossing: New Horizons, this time in reference to the spooky Lavender Town. Players have been using the robust content creation tools within Nintendo’s most recent town life simulator to make spot-on recreations of famous gaming locations and characters.

Chief among the properties fans are paying homage to in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Pokémon, which is a fitting choice given how both franchises are made by Nintendo and deal with players collecting items and creatures within a colorful world. Using New Horizons’ island customization features, fans have rebuilt key Pokémon locations like Gold And Silver’s National Park, recreated the feel of classic Pokémon battles, and even dressed up their villagers as characters like Ash Ketchum and Nurse Joy. Now, one talented fan has started bringing one of the Pokémon franchise’s darker locales to life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the results may send a chill down a prospective Trainer’s spine.

Just yesterday, Reddit user u/NagsUrbosa posted a video of their still-in-progress recreation of Pokémon Red And Blue’s Lavender Town to the r/AnimalCrossing subreddit. The brief clip depicts a villager dressed as original game protagonist Red running through the under-construction town as its infamously creepy theme music plays in the background, with drawings on the ground marking where the yet-to-be-finished buildings will go. While it isn’t an exact recreation of Lavender Town, the basic layout is nearly identical to the one in Pokémon Red And Blue. Check out u/NagsUrbosa’s work in progress in the Reddit post below:

Longtime Pokémon fans will remember Lavender Town as a small settlement on the way to Saffron City that functions as the home of a Pokémon graveyard with a rather dark history. Trainers brave enough to journey into the seven-story high Pokémon Tower at the upper east corner of town can capture Ghost-type Pokémon, as well as face off against the angry spirit of a Marowak mother that was killed by the evil Team Rocket. This somber backstory, as well as Lavender Town’s ever-ominous chiptune background music and a long-standing urban legend of young Japanese children taking their own lives after listening to it, marks the small town as one of the more sinister locales of the Pokémon series – as well as a surprisingly scary moment in what is normally a pretty family-friendly franchise.

While u/NagsUrbosa’s recreation of Lavender Town in Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t quite an exact match, it’s still close enough to function as a fun tribute to Pokémon Red And Blue’s classic location. With some more work, Lavender Town will be up and running in Animal Crossing, impressing fans from afar and scaring anyone who dare come close enough to hear that spooky theme music once more.
