Isabelle has become a staple of Animal Crossing marketing since her debut in New Leaf, and New Horizons has taken it a step further by giving Isabelle her own Twitter emoji. But if this is supposed to be Isabelle’s big moment, why is Tom Nook trending on Twitter?
Easy: Isabelle has hijacked Tom’s hashtag. According to the official Animal Crossing Twitter, Isabelle’s emoji will appear at the end of hashtags when fans use #AnimalCrossing, #ACNL, and #AnimalCrossingNewHorizons. However, Isabelle’s smiling face can be seen tacked on at the end of every #TomNook, leading many fans to joke that she’s stolen his brand.

Ironically, Isabelle’s hashtag hijacking comes on the heels of her taking over the official Animal Crossing Twitter. The account’s display name is now Isabelle, and its latest tweets are written from her perspective. The tweets explain that not only will Isabelle be running the Animal Crossing account, but Tom Nook even celebrated her return to Twitter by making her an emoji of her very own! Now, that’s deep lore.
At this time, #TomNook is the only hashtag Isabelle appears on that is not listed on the official Animal Crossing Twitter’s announcement post. Other Animal Crossing related characters like the Able Sisters and the Nooklings do not enjoy similar treatment—which is fair, given that they aren’t quite as iconic or brandable as Tom Nook.
Only about half of older tweets with the aforementioned hashtags will have Isabelle’s emoji, while others won’t. Still, fans are having a great deal of fun with this new function, and seeing Isabelle’s smiling face while scrolling through Animal Crossing hashtags is sure to bring a smile to someone’s face.
Isabelle certainly has a lot to tweet about with the release of New Horizon’s free summer update. The update brings diving to New Horizons, a feature from New Leaf that was only available in the Tropical Island.
Now, players can don their diving suit and free snorkels and go diving for collectible sea creatures and scallops whenever they please. The update also introduces Pascal, an otter who is very eager to exchange mermaid-themed crafting recipes for your scallops.
