Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be “huge” but that it won’t be free-to-play.

Although Ubisoft has previously confirmed the existence of Assassin’s Creed Infinity following several details about it being leaked, the studio hasn’t given much more information about the game since, leading to much speculation about the kind of game it’s going to be.

One such rumour is that Assassin’s Creed Infinity would be a free-to-play game. However, as reported by Gamespot, during a second-quarter earnings call earlier in the week Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that Infinity won’t be free-to-play and gave a little update on its development status.

Guillemot said, “It’s not going to be a free-to-play [game]. This game is going to have a lot of narrative elements in it. It’s going to be a very innovative game, but it will have what players already have in all the other Assassin’s Creed games, all the elements that they love that got them in right from the start. So it’s going to be a huge game. But with lots of elements that already exist in the games that we published in the past.”

Alongside that update from Guillemot, Ubisoft’s chief financial officer Frédérick Duguet described Infinity as being “at an early stage of development”.

Previous rumours about Assassin’s Creed Infinity have stated that it will act as an online hub for a wide range of different time periods and Assassin’s Creed experiences. It’s reported that it will be expanded upon and added to over time. Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed this, but the live nature of the project implies that it be added to with new time periods and Assassins.

When previously confirming Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft described it as, “a collaborative, cross-studio structure between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec that will guide, grow, evolve, and define the overall future of Assassin’s Creed”.

Ubisoft also confirmed during the earnings call that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has become the second-largest profit generating game for the studio.
