Despite Assassin’s Creed Valhalla not showing a whole lot of gameplay during last week’s Xbox Series X presentation (which even Ubisoft acknowledged and apologized for), little bits and pieces of news have been hitting the internet lately which reveal more information about the game. The latest piece of news to grace the internet deals with some of the mechanics that the development team has decided to bring back to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

While speaking with Kotaku, creative director Ashraf Ismail stated that aside from bringing back the hidden blade, the weapon will once again be capable of instantly killing enemies. “Eivor receives the hidden blade quite early on,” Ismail told the publication. “Early in the experience, Eivor will learn a technique that, with the right timing … can one-shot-kill virtually anybody.” For veteran and longtime fans of the series, this may seem like good news since the hidden blade and its insta-kill ability were present in the first few Assassin’s Creed games, but were taken out in future titles. Additionally, despite making a return in some of the later Assassin’s Creed games, the hidden blade did not insta-kill enemies. Now, it seems that things have changed for the better.

The hidden blade’s insta-kill ability won’t be the only mechanic to be brought back however. According to Ismail, social stealth will also be making a return in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game. As the developer stated, the concept of the story deals with the Vikings invading England and how they are not wanted there. As a result of that, going incognito and blending in with various crowds will help players stay hidden from the enemies and carry out a number of missions and side-missions. Ultimately, Ismail said that bringing social stealth back was a “major piece” of making sure that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla exhibits the series’ most memorable characteristics.

With the game set to release some time during this holiday season, fans can expect more information to be shared in the meantime. Considering the fact that Ubisoft has scheduled its Ubisoft Forward event for June, there is a very good chance that the company will talk more about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and share some gameplay as well.
