The leaked Avengers: Infinity War LEGO set features a Daredevil Easter egg – spotted by an eagle-eyed Marvel fan. Dubbed the culminating project of Marvel Studios, the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick will bring together many of the heroes that exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And if we presume that this Easter egg means something, perhaps the epic blockbuster will also see the big screen debut of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in the film franchise.
The minifig set has been a gold mine when it comes to possible information regarding the upcoming ensemble flick. It has hinted at a few armor and weapon upgrades for our heroes, including Spider-Man, who appears to be rocking a comic-accurate Iron-Spider suit complete with its appendages, and Thor wielding the Jarnbjorn, a supposed replacement for Mjolnir. However, there is another small Easter egg that a fan has discovered, this time, in connection to the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.

Instagram user the_marvelous_guy spotted the detail on the leaked LEGO that looks like the New York Bulletin – the newspaper Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) works for – in a newsstand. Upon closer inspection, the headline of the print says “CRIME FLOODS THE STREET,” with a huge photo of a red figure that looks similar to Daredevil with his signature horns and club. The newsstand appears to be attached to Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) Sanctum Sanctorum at 177A Bleecker Street in the Big Apple, which makes sense considering that the aforementioned characters operate in New York City.

Despite the clamor, the Marvel TV and cinematic universes could not be more separate. Except for the existing link that is Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) appearing in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and some short cameos from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) on the ABC series, the two pockets mainly operate on their own. Sure, the small screen counterparts reference the events and characters inhabiting the movie side of the MCU. However, there is no concrete indication that everything that transpires in both divisions happens in the same reality. So naturally, fans are pumped to see this easily missable detail from the LEGO set that could perhaps at least establish the films acknowledge the existence of the TV branch – if a short appearance is too much to ask for.
With New York once again geared up to be a significant location in Infinity War, it would be tricky to explain the Defenders’ absence in the narrative. The least Marvel could do is show where Matt Murdock, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) are when that mysterious ring suddenly appears floating on top of Greenwich Village. Considering how huge that thing is and the commotion surrounding it, it would be difficult to miss if you’re in the city. Otherwise, fans may feel cheated by Marvel maintaining that the TV and movie branch of the franchise co-exist in the same realm when it’s only the small screen projects that continue to reference their big screen counterparts.
On the flipside, we also can’t help but wonder if the newspaper headline indicates what Matt Murdoch’s future will be. Last we’ve seen him, people presumed he died with Elektra (Elodie Yung) when Midland Circle collapsed. Then again, we know that’s not the case thanks to the end of The Defenders where we saw him recuperating in what looks like a monastery. Speculation posits the upcoming third season of Daredevil will mine narrative beats from the character’s quintessential Born Again storyline. Fans won’t have to wait long to know more as the Marvel/Netflix flagship series is expected to return sometime this year with production on Daredevil season 3 already underway.
