Former Bachelor contestant Kelley Flanagan posted an emotional video revealing she’s been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Kelley is now the second member of Bachelor Nation to test positive for the infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. In May, former Bachelorette winner Ryan Sutter revealed his diagnosis was triggered by high levels of mold in his body.
The 29-year-old reality star was introduced to Bachelor Nation when she competed for Peter Weber’s heart. Turns out the duo actually met in August 2019 before the cameras started rolling when they bumped into each other in a hotel lobby where they were both staying for separate weddings. Though Kelley warned the soon-to-be Bachelor that she might become a contestant on his season, he truly believed he would never see her again. The duo had a whirlwind romance in front of Bachelor Nation’s eyes, ending with Kelley leaving the show heartbroken. She later alleged that ABC producers tried to keep her from Peter. Fast forward a few months and few post-show relationships on Peter’s behalf, and the couple reunited to see if they can make their love last in privacy. Their on-again/off-again relationship lasted for about two years before ending on a terrible note.
On Monday, Kelley tearfully shared her “not so good news” with her followers on Monday. “I’m not having the best day today,” Kelley said, adding that she had a strong feeling something was off because her body became very sensitive and reactive to day-to-day things. “Two of my brothers have Lyme Disease and a lot of their symptoms sounded really similar to me cause I’ve just always had something off since I was young, and like, really really had to take care of myself.” Kelley fought through her tears as she admits her diagnosis isn’t the end of the world.

Kelley continued to explain that she’s likely had Lyme Disease for a while so it’s almost relieving to hear the diagnosis. “It’s a blessing and a curse because now I can target why I feel off so often but also means several different lifestyle changes and extensive research on how to help/hopefully cure this,” she wrote in the caption. “I know this is going to be tough for me seeing what my brothers have gone through mentally and physically, but I’m going to put so much of my time and energy into figuring this out and combatting this.” Kelley ended her announcement promising to take fans along her journey of staying healthy and positive.
Many former stars of The Bachelor’s hearts went out to Kelley in the comments as she shared the start of her journey fighting the vicious disease that has affected other celebrities such as Avril Lavigne, Alec Baldwin, Amy Schumer, Justin Bieber and Shania Twain. Lyme Disease’s symptoms typically range from fever to headaches, fatigue and skin rashes. As Kelley said, she feels as though she’s likely been suffering from the disease throughout her adult life, and maybe this diagnosis is finally the thing she needed to feel better and live a long, happy and healthy life.
