Spoilers for Infinite Frontier #0 ahead!

The Flash, AKA Barry Allen, is considered one of the greatest heroes of the DC Universe, and now he has graduated to the “big leagues”—leaving behind his Earth and taking his place in the Justice Incarnate, a team of heroes charged with guarding the Multiverse. It is a huge step up for The Flash, and readers get to see it firsthand in Infinite Frontier #0.

Justice Incarnate first appeared in the pages of Grant Morrison’s 2014-2015 epic mini-series The Multiversity. Consisting of some of the Multiverse’s greatest heroes, including Calvin Ellis, the Super-President of Earth-23, Captain Carrot and Mary Marvel, Justice Incarnate is headquartered in the Hall of Heroes, located at the center of the Multiverse. Recently, the Multiverse was almost destroyed by Perpetua and The Batman Who Laughs; instead, the Multiverse was remade by the Hands, extra-dimensional beings from the Omniverse. It becomes clears much is different in the new Multiverse. These changes must be cataloged and studied—enter The Flash and Justice Incarnate!

The story focusing on Flash in Infinite Frontier #0 is written by Joshua Williamson with art by Howard Porter. When readers meet Flash in this issue, he is assisting Calvin Ellis in his studies of the new Multiverse. After discussing some of its quirks, Ellis asks Flash if he has considered their “offer.” After returning to Earth, Flash has a heart to heart with his former sidekick, Wally West, who was once the Flash himself. He passes the mantle of the Flash back to Wally and is now ready to take his place in Justice Incarnate, but not before one last race with his former protégé.

Looking at the big picture, The Flash’s induction into Justice Incarnate makes perfect sense. The character of the Flash is central to DC’s Multiverse—the first Flashes, including Barry and Jay Garrick, were among the first to traverse the Multiverse, thanks to their ability to vibrate across dimensions, a fact Wally notes. Each version of the character has also been integral to the Multiversal Crisis events that rock the DC universe every so often. It is worth noting that the Flash will be the Earth-0’s first representative in the Justice Incarnate, making his membership truly historic.

Previews for upcoming issue of The Flash have been vague on what happens next, but solicitations make no mention of Barry, and focus on Wally, so it perhaps can be surmised he goes onto the Hall of Heroes and Justice Incarnate. Readers can see The Flash grapple with this monumental decision in Infinite Frontier #0, by an all-star roster of writers and artists, is available in stores now and on all digital comics platforms.
