Benedict Cumberbatch went viral after running away from his security during the Spider-Man: No Way Home red carpet premiere. Marvel Studios and Sony pulled out all the stops for the upcoming Tom Holland-led film, which marks an end to Jon Watts’ Spider-Man “Homecoming” movie trilogy. And given Doctor Strange’s appearance in the movie, of course, Cumberbatch was front and centre at the film’s premiere event in Los Angeles earlier this week.
Tackling the fallout from Mysterio’s (Jake Gyllenhaal) malicious confession at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home will see Peter Parker at his most vulnerable. Not only was his true identity revealed to the world, but he’s also being framed for the death of Quentin Beck. With Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) dead, Spider-Man is forced to seek out Doctor Strange instead — the only other Avenger with who he’s had a strong “working” relationship. Peter asks the sorcerer to undo Mysterio’s revelation, and fortunately, the future MCU Sorcerer Supreme agrees to provide some assistance. However, it seems their effort backfires when Spider-Man and Strange accidentally expose Earth to multiversal threats.
Based on what’s known about Spider-Man: No Way Home from previous trailers, Doctor Strange will play an important role in the threequel. So, naturally, Cumberbatch attended the film’s extravagant premiere along with the rest of his co-stars and other big industry names. However, it seems that after the festivities, the actor was quite eager to leave the event, as seen in a new video from @strawberritom on Twitter. The problem was, however, that Cumberbatch left his security personnel running after him. Watch the viral clip below:

Cumberbatch wasn’t actually that present during Spider-Man: No Way Home’s press tour. Instead, Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon were the primary faces during junkets. Returning Spider-Man villain actors Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, and Jamie Foxx also did a group interview, but the rest of the cast has remained largely in the background. Perhaps this is Marvel Studios’ attempt to emphasize that the threequel is about Peter Parker’s story, first and foremost. It could also be because Cumberbatch is also busy with reshoots on Doctor Strange 2, titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which are still ongoing. While the additional work appears to be due to logistical issues during the film’s principal photography, the Doctor Strange 2 reshoots would likely ensure Cumberbatch was out for the count when it came to promotion Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Cumberbatch is well known for his cheeky and fun off-screen persona, so it’s not surprising that he pulled a stunt like this on his security team. After appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor will once again tackle his own adventure in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will certainly bring Cumberbatch to the forefront of press interviews in 2022. Give that, it’s likely fans haven’t seen the last of the Cumberbatch’s behind-the-scenes antics in the MCU, which is great news for makers of viral Twitter videos the world over.
