Since the show lasted for over a decade, there were abandoned storylines and unanswered questions. These run the gamut from unresolved relationship issues to reasons why a character left.

Here are 10 of the biggest questions remaining about the original main characters on Beverly Hills, 90210.

10 Girl Closest To Brandon?

In “Commencement,” the gang is about to graduate from West Beverly High. At the senior breakfast, there are a lot of memories flying around. Eventually, Brenda, Kelly, and Donna don their black dresses and sing about Brandon’s many relationships. Brandon reveals the girl he holds closest to his heart is figure skater Tricia Kinney from the forgettable “Fire and Ice” episode 19 of season 2.

Then and now, audiences collectively scratched their heads. Tricia was never meant to be much more than a flirtation. To this day, most fans still do not know why this girl was so close to Brandon’s heart.

9 Jack Mckay At Graduation?

Jack McKay’s resurrection shocked everyone, including Dylan, when it was revealed in season 10. Many long-time viewers remembered before Dylan went to get his diploma, he had a “vision” of his dad. Jack McKay reveals how proud he is of his son and urges him to follow his desires in life. In an instant, he disappears.

With the reveal of the fake death, fans were left wondering about that scene. Most thought it was Dylan’s subconscious coming out in the form of his Dad. Others thought that perhaps it could be a ghost. Now those audiences are left to wonder if perhaps it was Jack, there to see his son graduate.

8 Kelly A Guidance Counselor?

Beverly Hills 90210 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters

When Beverly Hills, 90210 ended, Kelly was nowhere near to being a guidance counselor. She had worked in a clinic as an assistant, she opened a clothing store with Donna, and she worked in PR. There was also her recurrent modeling. Though her degree was in psychology, working as a guidance counselor at her old high school seemed like a stretch.

Kelly was never truly about helping other people. Over time, she grew to be more kind and compassionate than the vapid girl introduced in the first season, but she never had the personality of someone who goes into this hard and unrelenting field. There is never any true explanation for it either in the spin-off 90210.

7 Why Didn’t Brandon Report Emily?

Beverly Hills 90210 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters

In season 2, Emily Valentine burst onto the scene. Brandon and the 90210 fandoms were left reeling. Emily did many questionable things, none more so than putting U4EA (a fictionalized ecstasy) into Brandon’s drink at an underground club. This led to Brandon finally ending their relationship, but he still covered for her at every turn.

This behavior not only didn’t make sense then, it still doesn’t in hindsight. As the next few episodes played out with Brandon becoming more disillusioned by Emily’s obsession with him and continuously deteriorating mental state, he still refused to report her. He struggled to get her to acknowledge that he didn’t want to date anymore, giving her less subtle hints with every failure, and yet he covered for her. There was no question in his mind that it was what he should do, though the rest of the gang and every fan is still wondering why.

6 Why Did Dylan’s Mother Stay Away?

Even on a show about excessive, unsupervised teen life Dylan’s amount of freedom seems insane. He begins living in a hotel (unsupervised). His Dad runs away from federal racketeering charges leaving him in a house (unsupervised). All that he says is his mom isn’t mother material, but how did she decide to leave her son with a man she knew was a criminal? How did she stay away from her son when she found out he was living unsupervised? Did she know he was going through so much turmoil?

As a teenage alcoholic whose father “died” in front of him, you might think that finally, your mother would come home to guide you through that minefield. Iris leaves her son again, only returning briefly when he graduates. There is no explanation ever really given other than she’s “not the mothering kind.”

5 What’s Brenda Doing In London?

Beverly Hills 90210 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters

The basic answer is acting. There are never any other details given. It had fans wondering the entire time if she was acting on the West Side? Did she move out of the theater and start acting on the screen? There are no substantial updates on her time in London, other than she gets with Dylan and they breakup. Her whole stay in London was wrapped up in her relationship status with Dylan.

There was never any update that didn’t revolve around the couple. The upshot for Brenda fans was occasionally her sending messages to members of the original gang for big events and then they would discuss what her status with Dylan was. For her devoted followers, this was a bitter pill to swallow.

4 Brandon Leaving?

Many fans felt that Brandon was short-changed when he left the show 5 episodes into its 9th season. Without the transplanted Walshes, there would be no Beverly Hills, 90210. The entire plot of the show was about this typical Mid-West family figuring out how to make it in L.A. Brandon Walsh started the series as a focal point and remained one up until he left. There was no one whose life wasn’t changed by having Brandon around, and though he was given a surprise goodbye party, there was not a lot of fanfare other than that. Many felt his storyline was not tied up well and that Brandon and Kelly were given a bad end.

3 Dylan And Brandon Were #BromanceGoals?

Beverly Hills 90210 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters

There was one truly solid relationship through the series, and it was Dylan and Brandon. The friendship between them was sincere, sweet and completely underrated. Through all of the ups and downs of Brenda and Dylan, Brandon and Dylan remained friends. Despite competing for Kelly’s affection, they overcame it as friends.

It was Brandon who helped Dylan on his quest to find Jack’s killer and he was there when Toni was killed. The only person Dylan felt the need to say goodbye to was Brandon. It was even revealed in the spin-off 90210 that they were still friends. Their relationship was endearing and one of the first bromances on screen.

2 Brenda An Activist?

Beverly Hills 90210 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Main Characters

In the teen dramas of the time, the kids were all self-involved and slightly vapid. The gang on Beverly Hills, 90210 was largely the same, but Brenda always stood out from her friends, even do-gooder Brandon. Brenda was the only one willing to get in trouble for her causes. She didn’t compromise her goals and when she had a belief she went all in.

At the time of the show, there were plenty of Brandon Walshes on the screen and everyone was used to seeing male activists, but not women. It was great to see Brenda be an unapologetic female activist. It may be the reason why her character got a bad reputation, but it was worth it.

1 David And Donna…?

Many fans were thrilled when the series ended with these two getting married. There was a minority of fans however who thought that with their rocky history they should have taken some time to resettle into their relationship and see if they could make it this time.

Though the couple was a fan favorite and very much in love, it was revealed on 90210 that they couldn’t and didn’t make it again. They separated, and Donna returned home without him. Fans were left to wonder if they had taken time, would they have made it?
