To date, there have been 11 Star Wars movies – if you include spin-offs Solo and Rogue One. The saga started way back in 1977 when A New Hope hit theatres, with the blockbuster making a huge $775,398,007 at the box office that same year. And the most recent outing for the franchise was The Rise of Skywalker, which brought George Lucas’ story to a satisfying conclusion.

But what characters have had the most screentime throughout the series’ run? We’ll now take a look at the top 10.

10 C-3PO: 71:45

C-3PO and R2-D2 have appeared in all Star Wars movies bar one – 2018’s Solo. Yet it’s the gold protocol droid who comes out top, getting 71 minutes and 45 seconds worth of action over the 10 movies he features in.

While that’s impressive, the character is definitely divisive. Some think he adds humor to the sci-fi epic while others feel he’s irritating – something the likes of Han, Poe Dameron and Leia would agree with. He’s got a special place in our hearts, though, and it’s no surprise he makes this list.

9 Padme Amidala: 72:00

Just like Leia, Padme Amidala is another example of a strong female character done right. It’s revealed in The Phantom Menace that she’s the queen of Naboo but, rather than stand by and let her followers and workers fight her battles for her, she takes an active role.

Padme fights on Naboo when the Trade Federation attack and holds her own after being captured on the planet of Geonosis, mowing down battle droids with a trusted blaster. Sadly, she dies in Revenge of the Sith shortly after being force-choked by Anakin Skywalker, the love of her life. Just before her passing, however, she’s able to bring twins Luke and Leia into the world.

8 Finn: 74:00

Star Wars 10 Characters With The Most Screentime (So Far)

John Boyega has aired some complaints with how his character, Finn, was done throughout the sequel trilogy. But he still gets an impressive 74 minutes of screentime, appearing in movies The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

He starts off as a First Order stormtrooper but, after being asked to slaughter innocent civilians by the bloodthirsty Kylo Ren, he decides to switch sides. It’s Finn who fights on the frontline on the planet of Exegol and, with a little help from Jannah, helps the good guys reign supreme. It looks as if that’s the last we’ve seen of the character, however, with Boyega admitting he’s now ‘moved on’.

7 Leia Organa: 77:30

In 1977, strong female characters weren’t the norm like they are today. But Leia Organa changed that with the fiery character, portrayed by the great, late Carrie Fisher, becoming an inspiration to young girls everywhere and setting the stage for how females in Star Wars are portrayed.

She, like Han and Luke, was pivotal as the Rebel Alliance brought the tyrannic rule of the Empire to an end. Leia stayed around to lead the Resistance following the First Order’s rise to power and sacrifices herself in order to turn Ben back to the light. Her plan succeeds and Ben helps finish Palpatine once and for all.

6 Chewbacca: 79:45

Chewbacca was somewhat marginalized in the sequel trilogy. He’s at the center of things in The Force Awakens but, in The Last Jedi, his only real memorable act was cooking Porgs. Thankfully Disney realized the error of their ways and Chewie got a bigger piece of the action in The Rise of Skywalker.

He gets 79 minutes and 45 seconds worth of screentime throughout his run in the series. Fortunately, he survives the battle with the First Order but, tragically, close friends Luke, Han and Leia do not.

5 Obi-Wan Kenobi: 113:15

Star Wars fans were hoping Obi-Wan Kenobi would make an appearance during the sequel trilogy to help Rey, having been a vital presence for Luke Skywalker. However, it wasn’t to be, with the character only making a fleeting appearance via audio from Ewan McGregor as Rey seeks help from the Jedi of the past amid her showdown with Palpatine.

That’s a shame, because Kenobi is a huge Star Wars character. With 133 minutes and 15 seconds of screentime, he makes it into the top five easily. Kenobi was played by McGregor during the prequels and the late Alec Guinness in the original trilogy. No matter the version, though, fans love the character.

4 Rey: 129:00

Coming in at fourth on this list is Rey. Despite being involved in just three Star Wars movie she gets a huge 129 minutes on the screen, way more than any other new character introduced in the sequel trilogy.

She starts off on the planet of Jakku having been abandoned by her parents many years previously. Rey ends up joining the Resistance and helps them defeat the First Order, confronting grandfather Emperor Palpatine along the way. It looks like she’s perished at the end of The Rise of Skywalker before she’s brought back to life by Kylo Ren, who gives her everything before dying himself.

3 Luke Skywalker: 133:00

Luke is a starry-eyed dreamer when he first debuted in A New Hope. However, after being trained as a Jedi by mentors Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, he then becomes a major player in the fight against the Empire.

Before the prequels released, Luke was very much the poster boy of Star Wars. He stood up to Emperor Palpatine in the darkest of times and successfully brought father Anakin Skywalker back to the light, getting Darth Vader to turn on his master. Luke dies in The Last Jedi saving his friends and gives Rey some much-needed advice in the final movie of the saga, helping her confront Palpatine and abolish his threat once and for all.

2 Han Solo: 138:30

Han Solo has become an iconic character in pop culture. Despite not having a lightsaber like close friend Luke, or having force powers like love interest Leia Organa, Harrison Ford’s character is extremely popular. And that means his positioning on this list shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Han starts off skeptical of the Jedi in A New Hope but later changes his tune, helping the Rebel Alliance take the fight to the evil Empire in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Han was killed off in The Force Awakens by son Kylo Ren but appears one last time in The Rise of Skywalker to bring his child back to the light.

1 Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader: 164:30

George Lucas always insisted that Star Wars was a story about Anakin Skywalker. The character started off as a nice, friendly individual living in hardship on the desert planet of Tatooine. However, after being enticed to the dark side by the villainous Emperor Palpatine, he turns his back on democracy to serve the Sith Lord.

As both Anakin and Darth Vader, the character gets a huge 164 minutes and 30 seconds of screentime. Arguably his biggest moment is when he reveals to Luke Skywalker that he’s his father, with Luke previously considering his dad to be dead.
