Big Brother 22 All-Stars: 10 Ways It’s The Worst Season (So Far)

Big Brother Season 22 was meant to be a great All-Stars run but so far, it’s been falling short of expectations.

Hopes were high for the 22nd season of Big Brother, which is also the second All-Stars season ever. It brought back 16 houseguests who had played the game before, two who have won, several who placed second and third, a handful who have played more than twice, and one who barely got to play at all.

While fans were upset about some of the houseguest choices and, more noticeably, the absence of some favorites, they were still willing to give the season a chance. After all, with such veteran players, chances are things will be juicy… or will they? A few weeks in, the season has turned out to be pretty dry. In fact, some might call it the worst season to date.

10 No One’s Making Any Big Moves

The entire season has been like a waiting game for the floaters and the people who aren’t in the primary alliance to go home before the “real” game begins. With a cast of All-Stars, it’s sad that no one wants to make a big move and strike first, even if it isn’t the “safest” strategy to do so.

Yes, taking out the people who aren’t in your alliance is a strategy in an of itself, because having a tight-knit group of people you can trust does help get players to the end of the game. But it gets boring quickly, especially when the alliance isn’t being challenged at all and there aren’t many favorites among the core group.

9 Producers Aren’t Shaking Things Up

In past seasons, when a dominating alliance was, well… dominating, producers unleashed some type of twist that shook things up and sometimes shifted the power to the other side of the house. That hasn’t happened yet.

So far, the twists backfired because the people in the majority alliance won them. The same goes for competitions. The season is in need of some serious creativity, yet producers have just maintained the boring status quo for weeks.

8 The Missing All-Stars

Instead of bringing back legendary players like Dan Gheesling and Derrick Levasseur, they brought back floaters like Kevin, people who never really played the game like David, and people who already won like Nicole F.

Sure, it’s possible that some of the first-choice all-star contenders were not interested in returning or did not pass the COVID-19 test. But go back to past seasons and there are so many other players who would have made things much more interesting. Even if they didn’t make it far on the show, they would’ve been far more interesting than some of the snore-fest second placers who are on now.

7 The Adult Women Act Like Mean Girls

It’s terrible to watch players like Danielle and Nicole talk as if they were mean girls in high school, making fun of Nicole A.’s podcast and admitting they dodged her calls to be on it. They’re also proud of talking behind people’s backs, like Janelle and Kaysar.

There’s no place on the show for mean girls who are actually grown women and, in some cases, mothers. It’s just embarrassing.

6 The Insensitive Comments About Ian

Every season, there’s some issue relating to things people say, especially on the live feeds. It might have to do with their treatment of women, racism, or being offensive to one group or another. While some instances have been dismissed as edgy humor, others got so much flack that fans lobbied for the offending person to be ejected from the game for their conduct. For this season, specifically, it had to do with conversations about Ian.

Ian was open about his autism, which often sees him rock back and forth to calm and center himself. Most people seem to ignore it, understanding that it’s just something he does. But in one conversation in the live feeds between Memphis, Nicole, Christmas, and Dani, they were mocking him. That’s not cool.

5 Everything Seems Obviously Set Up

Not to say that it is, but the season almost seems set up for Cody and Nicole to be the final two, which is enough to make it a snorefest. There are so many fierce competitors that haven’t even been nominated for the block yet.

Cody is running the show but not nearly as smoothly and seamlessly as his friend Derrick, who ended up beating him on his previous season. The only way the game will get interesting is when the “dispensable” people are eliminated and The Committee Alliance has to come after itself.

4 The Competitions Are Lame

Big Brother is known for its hilarious, over-the-top competitions that include elaborate sets. And while there have been a few that fit the bill so far this season, for the most part, the games have been pretty lame.

It isn’t just the nature of the competitions that are lackluster. In cases where a competition is actually interesting, the competitors are either throwing the win to someone else or not playing too hard because they feel safe and don’t want to be the HoH and get “blood on their hands.” Isn’t this All-Stars? So why is everyone afraid of actually having to play the game they’re supposedly great at?

3 There’s No Real Villain

If Danielle is supposed to be the season’s villain, then she’s doing a terrible job. There’s nothing compelling about her game play and, in fact, her schemes are so sloppy that her alliance has already figured out what she’s doing, referred to her as shady, and will probably vote her out when the opportune moment strikes. The villain is usually outspoken and while Dani has a lot to say in diary room sessions, she isn’t stirring anything up outright.

Thus far, the only person to blow up was Christmas, but she still doesn’t even qualify because she’s almost universally liked in the house. The closest person to a villain was Janelle, but she was voted out too early. That, and she wasn’t much of a villain to begin with because she didn’t really have anyone but Kaysar on her side.

2 Pre-Existing Relationships Gave Some Housemates An Unfair Edge

So many people entered the house with existing friendships, which gave them a hidden advantage. While there has only been one other All-Stars season, it seems like this group is more closely knit outside of the house than ever before. Nicole and Dani admitted they were close friends outside of the house and there have been rumors that the two had been pre-gaming. While Kaysar and Janelle didn’t really talk outside of the house, they quickly transported right back to game mode and had each other’s backs unquestionably. Cody and Nicole appear to be close as well.

These pre-existing relationships have been influencing the game and took away from the whole concept of Big Brother, which is to place 16 people who don’t know each other in a house and see what ensues. These pre-made alliances only made the stakes unbalanced and arguably unfair.

1 The Women Are Dropping Like Flies

Of the first five evictees, only one was a man. And while the girls seem to feel as though they are running the house as women have historically been some of the strongest competitors on the show, they are taking each other out and giving the guys an unfair advantage.

If seasons like the one with Brittany are any indication, when it comes down to the wire, the guys will stick together in the end, no matter how tight they claim their alliance to be with the ladies. As All-Star housemates and Big Brother veterans, the women should have recognized the men’s alliance early on and stopped it before it got this far.
