Disney+’s Black Is King cast contains several notable singers, not to mention Beyoncé herself. The Disney+ movie/visual album released in July 2020, and roughly follows the storyline of Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King but with some noticeable changes. Black Is King is the latest project from pop icon Beyoncé, and complements her 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift.

Black Is King takes place all over the world as Beyoncé engages with “today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.” The storyline includes narration from various franchise characters, including Simba, Scar, Rafiki, Nala, Sarabi, and Mufasa. At only 85 minutes in length, Black Is King plays out like a series of music videos, complete with cameos from several internationally-renowned stars.

Beyoncé is indeed the main attraction for Black Is King; however, the Disney+ film celebrates worldwide diversity and provides a huge platform for Black musicians who may be unfamiliar to mainstream audiences.
