Of all the characters on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Captain Raymond Holt may seem like the least shameless of the quirky 99 crew. He’s dignified, accomplished, and — let’s be real — downright robotic. But, every once in awhile, Petty Holt makes an appearance.

Arguably the most hysterical character on the show, Petty Holt is nothing but shameless. He holds onto grudges, blatantly disregards others, and dunks on his enemies (even after they’re dead). Take a look at the 10 most shameless things Captain Holt has done.

10 Playing Kwazy Cupcakes

Shamelessly, Holt is sucked into the app, playing at all hours and even lying about his habits. He hides his addiction even in the men’s room – or, as Gina calls it, the “liar’s den.” It affects his work, too, when he spots a “Kupcake Match” during a routine line-up.

He denies having a problem at all when clearly it is consuming his life. In flagrantly disregarding Gina’s intervention, Holt had one of his most shameless episodes.

9 Fanboying Over His Favorite Oboist

There are few clearer instances of a shameless Holt on display than when he comes face to face with John William Weichselbraun, noted oboist. He acts giddy around him like this is a covert celebrity case and completely over-steps.

When Charles determines Weichselbraun is not a celebrity victim but the perp, Holt brazenly disregards his colleague.

8 How He Double-Parked Gertie

Holt arrogantly parks his raspberry-sherbert-colored car in two spots. Even though he’s at fault, Captain Holt immediately throws down with Charles over the issue. He has no shame when it comes to Gertie, but eventually, he relents and admits his poor behavior.

Gertie is a sentimental vehicle. Kevin purchases Gertie to visit Holt back when they were dating. And while Gertie holds special meaning for Holt, this episode holds a special place in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine canon as one of Holt’s most shameless moments.

7 His Unsolvable Islanders Problem

When Captain Holt is preparing to meet his old commanding officer for breakfast, he has a dilemma; 20 years ago, his boss posed an unsolvable problem. Each time they get together, Holt gets asked whether he solved it.

Without shame, Holt uses the 99 to his advantage and puts them to the test. When even Amy can’t solve the problem of weighing 12 men on an island, he fesses up to not knowing the solution and shamelessly using them.

6 When He Acts Like Straight Holt

If there’s one character funnier than Petty Holt, it may be Straight Holt. This is the over-the-top persona the captain adopts when he must act like a straight male. He speaks inappropriately about women, talks brashly about his conquests, and generally maintains a gross cover.

Holt is truly unabashed when poking fun at straight men with his impression, convincing both men and women when he’s put to the task. The best part — Holt is totally shameless when he assumes this character, and the straight man he plays is even more shameless when he’s portraying “how the straight mind works.”

5 Chasing Down The Disco Strangler

Nobody gets Holt worked up quite like the Disco Strangler. When he picks up on the infamous serial killer’s scent once again, he shamelessly relives his glory days; although, in this case, he was right.

Still, that does not justify the way Holt relentlessly interrogated a suspect in the case, accusing her of being seduced by the Disco Strangler while Terry and Charles simply shook their heads.

4 Giving Jake The Lucky Rabbit’s Foot

In one episode, Captain Holt convinces Jake he can lift his no-case curse by rubbing a lucky rabbit’s foot with his left forefinger and pinky. Talk about shameless! It, of course, isn’t true. As Holt himself so infamously puts it, this was simply a case of “messin’ wit’ ya.”

It all stems from Detective Smitty, a superstitious former colleague of Holt’s who also believed he’d been cursed after a string of bad luck. It may have been shameless, but it worked: Holt helped Jake snap out of his funk, but clearly, he is not above using tricky behavior to do it.

3 Tossing Frederick’s Duck

In this instance, Holt was so shameless it almost caused a commotion. When Holt was forced to turn to his ex-boyfriend Frederick (played by Parks and Recreation’s beloved Nick Offerman), Holt would have rather stayed petty than swallow his pride to save the day.

Frederick wanted Holt to admit to throwing out his $740 wooden duck, which Holt adamantly insisted he didn’t. That’s because, in an even pettier move, he threw it off a bridge. Cut to an instantly iconic shot of a younger Holt flicking it into the water.

2 During All The Halloween Heists

It’s no secret the 99 crew fires on all cylinders during the Halloween heists, basically disregarding every iota of decorum for the duration of the hijinks. Holt is no exception. Each year, he boldly proclaims himself the most amazing human/genius, though he has yet to secure a true repeat win.

Here are just some of his most shameless stunts: Staging a party bus to trick Jake, sending Jake’s car to the impound lot, fooling Jake into thinking he’d stolen Kevin’s sentimental watch, breaking into Jake and Amy’s bedroom to taunt them, and, of course, spying on Jake and Amy in their own bedroom. The list goes on.

1 Arranging Wuntch’s Funeral

Petty Holt didn’t just pop up in this episode — he peaked here. At his most shameless, Holt celebrated the demise of his ultimate nemesis, Madeline Wuntch, going so far as to land his most vicious digs to date and partying with bagels.

It escalates when he planned her funeral, both a real one and a facade. Among the outrageous elements of the day, he dreamed up massive balloon arches and a screen that says “She’s Dead” alongside a meme-worthy picture of Wuntch. Long live Petty Holt.
