Pokemon remakes have been a staple of the series for decades, and they’ve often served as a comprehensive celebration of the franchise. Entries like HeartGold and SoulSilver included both the Johto and Kanto regions for players to explore, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire included elements from Emerald, and now Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are poised to continue the tradition. With only a week left until Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are out, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are ramping up anticipation.

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have already shown off features like the updated Poketch and Super Contests, and The Pokemon Company recently revealed another thing to look forward to. As is tradition with most Pokemon games, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will let players catch a handful of Legendaries from Pokemon’s history. Found in the brand-new Ramanas Park, each game will have its own exclusive Legendaries in true Pokemon fashion. While the latest trailer didn’t reveal every one available, the Pokemon it did show carry a significance that many fans should be able to appreciate.

The Story Behind Pokemon Brilliant Diamond’s Exclusive Legendaries

Pokemon fans who decide to go with Brilliant Diamond will have the fortune of being able to catch Ho-Oh and the three Legendary Beasts: Raikou, Suicune, and Entei. These four have a deep connection with one another in Pokemon lore, which fans may be familiar with if they’ve played Pokemon Gold and Silver. The story goes that Ho-Oh revived the three beasts from the charred remains of Ecruteak City’s Brass Tower, with each of them embodying a different aspect of the tower’s destruction. Considering this close connection, it’s more than appropriate all four legendaries will be available to catch in Brilliant Diamond’s Ramanas Park.

The Story Behind Pokemon Shining Pearl’s Exclusive Legendaries

Pokemon Shining Pearl’s exclusives include Lugia and the three Legendary Birds: Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos. These Pokemon are unique in that their relationship transcends a single Generation, as the Legendary Birds were introduced before Lugia. Lugia serves as the trio master for the three birds, and is the only one capable of calming them should they quarrel with one another. Their most notable appearance together is Pokemon The Movie 2000, and getting to catch all four will likely be a nice bit of nostalgia for those who fondly remember the film.

Other Lore That Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Could Highlight

With Ho-Oh, Lugia, and their respective trios rounding out early parts of Pokemon lore, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl still have room to recognize other bits of the franchise’s history. The newest trailer teased Rayquaza will appear in some capacity, so it would make sense if one game had Kyogre and the other featured Groudon. Depending on how far into the future Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl go, they could also have the Gen 5 legendaries Reshiram and Zekrom, and possibly introduce Kyurem to utilize the fusions featured in White 2 and Black 2.

The exclusive legendaries in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl introduce a lot of interesting possibilities, not just for trading with friends, but for appreciating the larger story of Pokemon. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company will likely increase marketing for the games leading up to release, so it’s possible that fans may soon get a better idea of just how many Legendaries to expect — and which ones will be exclusive to the version they decide to pick up.
