In celebration of International Cat Day, Cat Quest II just released a free update that revamps the whole game. Also, it’s on sale.
Yesterday was International Cat Day, the one day a year we celebrate our feline friends wherever they may be. As if we don’t do that already with all the various Tik Tok videos about cats, but whatever. Nobody’s going to argue with a holiday for cats.
Cat Day is also a special day for The Gentlebros, the indie studio responsible for Cat Quest and Cat Quest II. To thank their cat-loving fans, The Gentlebros announced that 1.3 million catventurers have set out in both Cat Quest games, and to thank them they also released a brand new free update to Cat Quest II that adds a whole bunch of new content.
To start, there’s Mew Game. It’s sort of like New Game+, but instead of starting the game over with enemies at a higher level, Mew Game adds 8 different challenges that can be activated to make Cat Quest II even tougher. Challenges include Nine Lives where you can only die nine times before your save file deletes itself, or Naked Paws where you cannot equip weapons or armor.
Inventory management has been simplified by letting players know what equipment they find is rare and what equipment is relatively common. Sprinting will finally let you traverse the overworld faster by causing your character to sprint after running around for a few seconds.
New enemies now fill the ocean, damage is now color-coded to its elemental type, and the new Pawer Smash special attack provides an ultra-heavy attack to all weapons whenever you perform a roll followed by an attack in quick succession.
There’s a lot more in The Mew World update, including a reworked defense stat and added loot challenges, which you can read about on Steam.
