Celeste is one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2018. Since its release in January, Celeste has only been available for download. That is going to change on Tuesday, January 1st. Limited Run Games announced recently that it will be releasing physical copies of the game for Nintendo Switch and PS4. In addition to this, Limited Run has announced that Celeste will be receiving a physical Collector’s Edition.

As seen in the picture, the Switch Collector’s Edition will retail for $79.99 (PS4 version will be five dollars cheaper) and comes with numerous items. The game will come in a SteelBook case. Fans may be most interested in the cassette soundtrack. For anyone who does not have a player capable of playing cassettes, Limited Run confirmed on Twitter that those who purchase the Collector’s Edition will receive an email download code of the soundtrack as well. All in all, there is certainly a lot of content in the Collector’s Edition.

It should be noted that Celeste’s physical standard edition and Collector’s will be available through Limited Run’s website. Pre-orders go live at 10:00am EST on January 1st, with a second batch coming at 6:00pm that same day. These types of limited physical copies typically sell out quick. So, if you have any interest in owning a physical copy of Celeste, it would probably be best to jump on the pre-order. As an example, Furi was given a physical release on Switch from Limited Run earlier this year. The Switch version is now going for high prices in the aftermarket. With how popular Celeste is, the physical release is likely to sell out quickly. However, Limited Run does say that a “small batch” of Collector’s Editions (not the standard) will be available through Fangamer as well, in either April or May.

Celeste tells the story of a young woman named Madeline. Her goal is to climb Mt. Celeste. Along the way, she comes across other characters, including herself. There is so much more to the story, that to give anything away would be a disservice to how compelling and emotional it is. The level design is a primary selling point. Celeste is not an easy game, but it is a lot of fun. The levels are designed to be challenging, but also motivating. You will probably fall into the abyss or spikes multiple times, but you are still motivated to keep trying. Along with a great soundtrack, these are the reasons why Celeste has been acclaimed. Those who have not played the game (and like owning physical copies), should consider Limited Run’s upcoming release.
