Marvel stars Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson are set to reunite onscreen for Apple’s new adventure film Ghosted. While Evans and Johansson were rocketed to a new level of stardom for playing Steve Rogers/Captain America and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in multiple MCU movies, the pair have also worked with each other on various projects outside the franchise. In fact, their film history began four years before Phase 1 of the MCU hit the big screen.

In 2004, Evans and Johansson co-starred in the teen comedy film The Perfect Score. And it wasn’t too long after that they flaunted their onscreen chemistry yet again, with Evans playing the love interest of Johansson’s leading lady, Annie Braddock, in the 2007 rom-com The Nanny Diaries. The Hollywood powerhouses then slipped into their respective supersuits and began their journey into the MCU. Evans and Johansson completed six Marvel movies together in just seven years in their iconic roles as Avengers. And although their time appearing alongside each other in Marvel projects may be over, it is clear that the actors enjoy working together.

According to THR, Evans and Johansson are teaming back up for a new Apple adventure film, Ghosted. So far, plot details of the film are being kept largely under wraps. However, the project has been described as a “high-concept, romantic action adventure” akin to the 1984 classic movie Romancing the Stone, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

The A-listers are backed by a glittering production team. Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) will direct the movie, while Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writing duo behind quirky action hits like Deadpool and Zombieland, are set to write and produce it. Evans is also putting on his producer hat for the project alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger of Skydance (The Tomorrow War).

This marks the second film, at least to public knowledge, that Johansson has signed on to since news broke that she filed a lawsuit against Disney for breaching her Black Widow contract. The first was a so-far untitled Wes Anderson project, which has been filming in Spain with a star-studded cast. Meanwhile, Evans earned much acclaim for his previous project with Apple, Defending Jacob. He recently also had another Marvel mini reunion, working with Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo on the upcoming action thriller, The Gray Man.

Headlining Ghosted with Evans and Johansson will no doubt be costing Apple a pretty penny. While the twosome no doubt reap the benefit of working with each other, the Hollywood heavy-hitters also come with hefty price tags. That said, it’s a solid investment for the relatively new streaming platform Apple TV+ (which is just two years old), as viewers will surely flock to the screen to watch the perfectly paired Avengers actors together once again.
