As Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the best TV shows of the 2000s thanks to Larry David’s fictional self, it’s easy to forget who forced Larry in to those bizarre and unfortunate situations he so often finds himself in. Cheryl is one of the most underrated characters on the show, as she pulled the strings for most of the seasons.

Though she does often go overlooked, Cheryl is one of the most inconsistent characters, and in later seasons she is so contradictory of her previous actions and beliefs.

10 Not Respecting Wood

In what is the best finale of the series, Larry is accused of staining Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ coffee table, but he claims he didn’t do it and sets out to tack down the culprit. It’s the only time Cheryl has ever really been deceitful, and it’s so out of character for her to try and hide the fact that she stained Julia’s wooden table.

However, even though it doesn’t quite make any sense, the reveal that it was Cheryl who doesn’t respect wood was one of the funniest plot twists in the show.

9 Her Acting Career

Though she spends a lot of her time working for the NRDC, a non-profit environmental advocacy group, she wasn’t always the alluring charitable worker.

Before the season one of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheryl used to be an actor, but her work has never been mentioned or brought in to conversation, and she has never gone back in to the industry since (except for the Seinfeld reunion). She has never even shown any interest in any of Larry’s work, which is strange considering her passion was once acting.

8 Being With Larry For So Long

Curb Your Enthusiasm 10 Things That Make No Sense About Cheryl

Larry and Cheryl’s on-off relationship is one of the things that wasn’t very appealing about season 10, but before it ever reached that point, they were a stable unit for a full six seasons. Despite the fact that Larry often seemed like he was hoping that Cheryl would break up with him at times, it never happened.

What makes no sense is that the two are completely wrong for each other, and there’s no better proof than the fact that even Susie and Jeff’s marriage lasted longer. Cheryl and Larry never cared about each others’ feelings and never got excited about each others’ achievements, and it led to one of the worst multi-episode story arcs of the series.

7 Encouraging Larry To Fire The Cable Guy

When Cheryl left Larry it was one of his lowest points in the series, but he may have forgotten the bad times as Cheryl often got him into trouble. In season two, when they are all gathered around the TV to watch Richard Lewis’ HBO special, the cable kicks out, which leads Cheryl to make Larry fire the cable guy.

After Larry fires him, Wanda accuses Larry of firing him because he’s black, and Cheryl stands idly by. It’s almost as if the character forgot that it was her idea in the first place.

6 Uptight About Monogamy

Throughout the series, Cheryl often spends a lot of her time making sure Larry is on the straight and narrow and has tunnel vision for just one woman, her.

Though she questions Larry’s commitment to monogamy in so many episodes, there are several instances that completely contradict her intense feelings. In season four, Cheryl’s anniversary present to Larry is to let him sleep with another woman, and then in season 10, she cheats on her new boyfriend with Larry.

5 The Cleaner’s Bra

In another contradictory episode, Cheryl understands that Larry should buy their housekeeper a bra, as she cleans without one and it’s all too distracting.

But later in the episode, Larry is caught snooping at Susie’s bra as he’s trying to suss out what size the cleaner is. When he is caught, Cheryl again stands by and watches Larry get screamed at, when she could have explained everything. She even joins in with screaming at Larry.

4 Change Of Character In Season Six

Cheryl always hated that Larry was never in any kind of rush to commitment, and that’s something that been consistent about his character since season one.

But as their relationship finally starts to break down, Cheryl’s whole character changes. The season may have been setting up her and Larry’s break up, but in doing so she acts entirely different and starts flirting with other people, including Ted Danson.

3 Sexual Advances

In an early episode of the show, Cheryl gets angry at Larry in bed because she always has to be the one to initiate sex, which makes complete sense considering how lazy the fictional Larry David is.

However, many times after that, we see the two of them in bed where Larry is always making sexual advances on Cheryl, but she refuses almost every single one of them. It even gets to the point where Larry pretends to be upset due to the passing of his mother so that Cheryl will feel sorry for him and have sex with him.

2 Dropping Off The Bottle Of Wine

In season three, Cheryl demands that she and Larry stop off at their friends’ house to drop off a bottle of wine, a three-year late wedding present (which also caused a bunch of other problems).

When they finally arrive at the house. Cheryl complains to Larry that they should have called before visiting, as if it wasn’t her idea to visit and even buy the bottle of wine in the first place.

1 Susie And Cheryl’s Fight

When it comes to close knit friendships in Curb, they are few and far between, but Susie and Cheryl’s friendship is one that has been largely free of drama.

However, in the final episode of season three, Cheryl reveals that her and Susie have not been speaking much, and in the final scene they end up screaming profanities at each other. Not only is the catalyst of their argument not revealed, but their reconciliation is never mentioned either.
