Aquaman has caught a lot of flack over the years. For a long time, people thought he was just generally useless but never thought about the fact that he’s a guy who swims at the bottom of the ocean at supersonic speeds. Aquaman is super strong and tough. He has to be. It wouldn’t be until the last decade that fans at large would start giving him the love and respect he deserved.

Since its debut in the late 90s, fans around the world have caught Pokémon fever. The franchise has boasted video games, manga, anime, all kinds of toys, a collectible card game, and big-screen movies. It’s a worldwide phenomenon. The Pokémon themselves are formidable creatures, able to kick all kinds of tail. This list is going to look at some Pokémon who could take down Aquaman and some who couldn’t.

10 Could Beat Aquaman: Charizard

Aquaman is pretty tough, but Charizard would be too much for him. One of the most popular Pokémon of them all, this Gen 1 evolution of Charmander is large and in charge.

The problem Aquaman would face against Charizard is that first off all, Charizard can fly. Aquaman isn’t completely useless on land and because of his super strength can jump pretty high, but a flying opponent can avoid him. Add to that his powerful fire attacks and Charizard can just stay out of Aquaman’s reach and blast him.

9 Couldn’t Beat Aquaman: Snorlax

Snorlax may not seem like much, what with their constant sleeping and lazy demeanor, but Snorlax are big, strong, durable Pokémon able to dish out and take a lot of punishment.

The problem Snorlax faces fighting Aquaman is that Snorlax has no long range attacks, so it has to fight Aquaman up close. Aquaman is not only a superlatively skilled hand to hand combatant, but he’s strong enough to hold up a tectonic plate or lift massive ocean liners over his head. Snorlax are tough but they aren’t that tough.

8 Could Beat Aquaman: Espeon

One of the Eveelutions, Espeon is a powerful Psychic type Pokémon. While Espeon look pretty delicate, they are lot more powerful than they appear, able to dish out a lot of damage with their psychic powers.

Aquaman is definitely Espeon’s physical superior, but brute strength doesn’t always win a fight. Espeon’s psychic powers are something that Aquaman can’t defend himself against. Espeon can hit him with Confuse and then just pound him with Psybeams.

7 Couldn’t Beat Aquaman: Gyarados

Gyarados is known as one of the fiercest Pokémon around. It has an extremely violent nature and has the power to back it up. Its teeth can crush rocks and its scales are harder than steel. The destruction a Gyarados can wreak is awe-inspiring and frightening.

So, Aquaman can control sea life and Gyarados lives in the sea, so technically, this wouldn’t even be much of a fight. However, let’s give Gyarados the benefit of the doubt and say Aquaman’s powers can’t control it. Sea serpents are something that Aquaman has dealt with before. It would be a titanic battle, but in the end, Aquaman would slay Gyarados.

6 Could Beat Aquaman: Zapdos

One of the Legendary Bird trio, Zapdos is an Electric/Flying-type Pokémon. They are known for their speed and power, able to create massive thunderstorms with a simple flap of their wing.

Much like Charizard, Zapdos’s flying abilities are what is really going to win it this fight. It can avoid anything Aquaman throws at it- literally, since that would be the only way he could hurt it- and then just keep the pressure on Aquaman, hitting him with powerful lightning blasts until he went down.

5 Couldn’t Beat Aquaman: Ursaring

Ursaring is a Normal-type Pokémon. These massive bears are known for their keen sense of smell, climbing ability, and massive strength. Highly territorial and protective of its young, Ursaring are formidable Pokémon.

Everything an Ursaring can do, Aquaman can do better. He’s stronger and more skilled. His skin, which can withstand the massive pressures of the bottom of the ocean, can easily protect him from any of Ursaring’s attacks. It wouldn’t take too many hits from Aquaman at all to take Ursaring down.

4 Could Beat Aquaman: Mewtwo

One of the most powerful Psychic-type Pokémon, Mewtwo was created in a lab to be the ultimate Pokémon. It is one of the most frightening Pokémon of them all, striking fear into its opponents with its cold, glowing eyes and lack of compassion. There are few Pokémon who can match their power.

Aquaman has faced a lot of powerful threats in his day, but Mewtwo would just be too much for him. Aquaman is much physically stronger than Mewtwo, but that doesn’t matter much against Mewtwo. He can shield himself and use his telekinesis to throw Aquaman around and hit him with powerful Psybeam attacks. Mewtwo would just be too much for Aquaman to deal with.

3 Couldn’t Beat Aquaman: Throh

Throh are Fighting-type Pokémon from Generation V. Known to travel in packs of five, they always try to throw opponents that are larger than them and are a male-only species of Pokémon.

Throh are very strong which is evinced by their many throw-based attacks. However, they aren’t stronger than Aquaman. While Throh may be able to get the drop on Aquaman and throw him around for a bit, Aquaman would get his bearings rather quickly and take the fight to Throh, using his superior fighting skills and strength to take them down.

2 Could Beat Aquaman: Arceus

Arceus is a Normal-type Mythical Pokémon. It doesn’t evolve, but it doesn’t have to. Known as “The Original One”, it is believed to have created the entire Pokémon universe and at the very least created Sinnoh and Ransei. Its power is near incalculable.

Aquaman has faced ocean gods on his own before, but he’s never faced any being with the kind of power that Arceus has. It has recreated things once they were destroyed, made things disappear into thin air, and stopped time. It’s so powerful that it was able to protect its planet from meteor strikes. Arceus just outclasses Aquaman in every way.

1 Couldn’t Beat Aquaman: Pikachu

The mascot of the entire Pokémon franchise, Pikachu is one of the most famous faces on the planet. Even people that have never watched or played anything Pokémon-related know who this Electric-type is.

Pikachu are very powerful; Ash’s Pikachu in particular is known for its ability to end just about any fight it gets into. However, as formidable as its electrical powers are, they aren’t anything Aquaman hasn’t faced before. Aquaman would be able to take a few hits, jump in, and end the fight with one titanic blow.
