Warning! Spoilers for Wonder Woman #777!

In comics, the idea of a sprawling multiverse full of infinite possibilities is a constant source of excitement and intrigue for readers, and now, DC Comics has revealed its “main” Earth, aka Earth-0, isn’t as special as it initially might seem. But just because Earth-0 isn’t all that exceptional in the grand scheme of DC’s unfathomably enormous Omniverse, that doesn’t mean it’s any less important than it always has been to fans.

Revealed at the very beginning of Wonder Woman #777, by Michael W. Conrad & Becky Cloonan and Emanuela Lupacchino, Wonder Woman is on a mission to return to Earth-0 after her heroic actions at the end of Dark Night: Death Metal left her displaced from her homeworld without a clear way back. Leaving the realm of Elfhame behind with her friends, Sigurd and Ratatosk, in tow, Diana believes she has finally made it back home proper, only to be met with quick disappointment.

Immediately met by Justice Guild member, Marsha — Martian Manhunter’s gender-swapped doppelgänger of Earth-11 — Diana is told that she isn’t where she believes to be, and after giving Diana a brief rundown of the newest hurdle in her dimensional-hopping predicament, comments on the very nature of the multiverse itself, and reveals without a doubt that Earth-0 isn’t as notable as everyone believes. Saying, “People from your dimension call this world Earth-11…however, we just call it Earth. Funnily enough, we refer to your home as Earth-11,” Marsha continues with her thoughts on the subject by asking, “Isn’t it humorous how each sphere of the multiverse sees itself as the real one?” directly drawing attention to the fact that while all Earths are important, they aren’t all that special, especially because the multiverse is all about one’s place in it as well as that same person’s perspective of it.

Already briefly touched on after the climactic events of Death Metal, Earth-0 is no longer the “center” of the multiverse, but even if it were, the only reason it’s considered more special by fans over any other parallel world is simple: it’s the “main” Earth we as readers are following each week when buying the newest DC book to hit store shelves. And now, with Infinite Frontier ensuring that “everything matters” by unlinking the idea of Earth-0 always feeling like it’s the only Earth that “real” continuity happens on, DC is making sure that no one Earth is any less special than the last.

Now when it comes to the idea of DC’s multiverse, it’s a storytelling device that’s always been considered as a brilliant albeit convoluted way to give creators the ability to flex their creative muscles in wildly different ways across the board, and now by revealing that worlds other than Earth-0 are just as important as the one readers mainly follow, DC is opening up the proverbial flood gates for stories that can be told in any number of new and inventive ways without compromising what each Earth stands for in the grand scheme of things.

No longer special yet just as important as ever, Earth-0 shouldn’t need to always be at the center of everything going on in the DC Universe. And with the idea of omniverses, multiverses, and parallel universes constantly playing with the perspective of what is and isn’t considered “real” continuity, it’s good to know that from here on out, all DC Comics’ stories are being told on an even playing field.
