Despite the Magistrate falling, DC heroes are dealing with the fallout of the organization’s defeat – which creates an Iron Man-related problem.

In the pages of DC Comics, both current Batgirls just encountered an Iron Man villain problem. In Batgirls #1, the comic ends with the revelation a new group of armored villains named The Saints have risen despite the Magistrate being dismantled. The scenario is one Iron Man often deals with, as his villains have used his tech to fight against him. However, in this case, The Saints are turning tech used to police Gotham City and vigilantes into their own weapons.
Tony Stark might be one of the most brilliant people in the Marvel Universe, but his ambition and ego have led to the creation of some of his greatest villains. Most famously, Obidiah Stane used Iron Man’s own technology to become the Iron Monger in his efforts to take him down. However, even in the current Marvel Comics continuity, a new villain emerged due to Stark’s carelessness – as the hero was oblivious in allowing a Hydra agent to join S.H.I.E.L.D. In DC’s Batgirls series, it seems Batman and co. didn’t do a good enough job in making sure the Magistrate’s forces were fully gone as a new team is coming after the young heroes.
In Batgirls #1 by Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Jorge Corona, Sarah Stern, and Becca Carey, the Batgirls find a new home base in Gotham City’s The Hill and take to the streets together. After encountering a group of construction workers who were under the control of a mysterious force and muggers who earlier attacked Cassandra Cain, Batgirl and Spoiler go on a late-night recon mission to learn more. However, the duo finds themselves confronted by The Saints, who tell them The Magistrate will never die.
The Saints seem to be a product of the remaining loose ends of the Magistrate. The military-like force might have been defeated in Gotham City, but it appears there are still disciples of Simon Saint, who are seemingly using his tech to continue the Magistrate’s mission. Now, it’s up to the Batgirls to stop them before the Magistrate rises again.
While it’s not exactly revealed where The Saints tech comes from, it seems to be a safe bet that it’s leftover from Simon Saint’s attempt to control Gotham City. After all, the Magistrate ruled the Future State timeline after appropriating Bruce Wayne’s tech – just like Iron Man villains have done in the past. Unfortunately, the loose ends could continue to haunt Gotham going forward. Batgirls #1 is in comic book stores now.
