With the holidays right around the corner, it was only a matter of time before Koei Tecmo would add festive costumes to Dead or Alive 6. Considering there are literally hundreds of dollars worth of costume DLC for the fighter, why not top it off with Santa outfits?
In the “Santa’s Helper Costume Pack,” practically every fighter will be donning their best winter attire to help Santa carry gifts to all the children of the world. Surprisingly (or not, depending on your opinion of the game), this is actually not brand new content. A similar pack was released for Dead or Alive 5: Last Round under the same name. For whatever reason, this latest iteration leaves out the festive outfit for guest character Mai Shiranui and her fellow King of Fighters star Kula Diamond.
In typical Koei Tecmo fashion, the DLC is priced at an insane $23.99. It is not included in the third season pass -which goes for a whopping $80-, though you can buy costumes individually at $1.99 a pop if you don’t feel like dropping a Jackson and Lincoln. It’s not exactly the best deal, but maybe going for the whole shebang isn’t the point.
If you’re not keen to grab any additional outfits, the latest update for Dead or Alive 6 has included some new unlockables for Leifang. There are also some unspecified bug fixes, which could amount to anything. Seeing as how Dead or Alive 6 reportedly doesn’t have great online, it would have been nice to see this update address those problems.
I suppose one can’t be too mad at Koei Tecmo for churning out all of this superfluous DLC for its games. If people weren’t buying them, these packs wouldn’t exist. They also don’t fundamentally alter the gameplay, though it’s more a form of light psychological manipulation to get you playing dress-up.
The real issue is that all of the season passes and insane amounts of extra content add up to a tremendous amount of cash. It would be great to see something like a “fighter pass” for Dead or Alive 6 just to skip out on navigating through a sea of pointless additions. At least you can grab things piecemeal.
