The upcoming Demon Slayer video game, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles, will come to North America and Europe thanks to Sega. The game will be the latest adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which has sold over 150 million copies, making it the tenth best-selling manga of all time. A Demon Slayer anime of the same name made its debut in 2019, with the Mugen Train movie grossing over $500 million at the 2020 box office.

The game is being developed by CyberConnect2, the studio responsible for a slew of anime-inspired games including numerous Naruto games, several JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure titles, and the Switch-bound Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Being in business since 1996, CyberConnect2 has a proven track record, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the Demon Slayer project.

On October 15 of this year, Sega will also publish Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles in North America and Europe, announced alongside a new trailer. The title will be released on new and old-gen consoles, including Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The Demon Slayer game is also receiving a Window PC release via Steam (which is notably having its annual Summer Sale. The original Japanese and English voice actors will reprise their roles in the Western release, as can be seen and heard in the new Sega of America trailer.

Current fans of Demon Slayer can expect a similar plot, as The Hinokami Chronicles will retell Tanjiro Kamado’s Unwavering Resolve Arc from the anime and the Mugen Train arc from the animated film. Though not an original plot, there should be enough emotional moments to entertain new and existing fans of the series. It’s also a wonder if the English version will be a one-to-one port or if it might contain exclusive new content – or, perhaps, censorship with Western audiences in mind.

With CyberConnect2, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is likely going to be a major commercial access, especially with the brand recognition of the Demon Slayer brand. Gamers who are fans of anime are accustomed to the formula of games retelling certain arcs from anime. Meaning it’s unlikely to deter fans who are deeply engrossed within the lore won’t shy away from playing the new title.
