Bad news, Destiny 2 fans. Looks like you’ll have to wait an extra couple of weeks to see what Bungie has in store for Destiny 2’s future. As per an official announcement, the upcoming Shadowkeep expansion is being pushed back from September 17th to October 1st. There seem to be no problems, Bungie would just like a little more time to make sure its flagship game’s big new expansion is as good as it can be.

The statement comes from the official Bungie blog, and is short and to the point. “Being independent means that the future of Destiny 2 is entirely on our team,” they write. “It also means that we’re agile enough to choose to do what’s best for the game and our players, even if it’s the hard choice.”

That said, this “hard choice” only amounts to two weeks. Other games get delayed for entire years, so this seems like a minor inconvenience at worst. Still, Bungie is aware that fans plan for these launches well ahead of time. They even leave a sincere and self-aware apology for the fans who call out of work to partake in video game launches.

“We know for some of you (us too), Destiny releases are events where you take time off of work or develop a sudden sickness that keeps you from school or work (we get it, a bunch of our team takes some time off to go on their own Destiny Jacket Quest). We’re sorry for screwing up your plans and we wanted to share this information as quickly as we could,” they say.

To make it up to players, Bungie is extending the Moments of Triumph and adding an extra Iron Banner to keep guardians busy until the new Shadowkeep launch. They also reiterate that Cross Save is still due this summer, well ahead of the game’s Stadia launch.

Also of note is that New Light, a free-to-play version of vanilla Destiny 2, has also been delayed. Both New Light and Shadowkeep are now due out on October 1st for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, and Stadia in November.
