TennoCon has just wrapped up and with it brought a slew of announcements. The biggest news is the surprise reveal of the Heart of Deimos, a brand new open-world expansion that will hit Warframe’s servers on August 25.
The third open-world area along with the Plains of Eidolon and the Orb Vallis, the Heart of Deimos will take Tenno to Deimos, the second moon of Mars and the apparent origin of the Infestation. On Deimos, two giant worms face off in a daily batter, with the Entrati populace hanging in the balance. You’ll do missions for Mother to save the Heart of Deimos and let the Entrati live for another day.
Deimos is an entirely different world than either Plains of Eidolon or Orb Vallis, which could be characterized as being Grineer and Corpus-themed worlds, respectively. Infestation runs all over the surface of the moon and beneath are “ever-changing tunnels” that Warframes will enter to defeat the machinations of the Infested.
To help Tenno explore this new world is Xaku, the upcoming community-made Warframe. Called “The Broken Warframe,” Xaku literally breaks into pieces when casting some of his abilities. We don’t know much about what those abilities are, but Warframe’s first community-made frame, Nova, is considered one of the best in the game so the Warframe community definitely knows how to make a good frame.
Heart of Deimos will also bring an unprecedented era of Warframe customization. The Helminth Chrysalis System will allow Tenno to take abilities from one Warframe in a process called “subsumption” and then give that ability to a different Warframe.
The donating Warframe is consumed in the process, but once the ability is unlocked it can be spliced on to as many new Warframes as desired.
There are also eight generic Helminth abilities that can be used in place of regular Warframe abilities, giving less spectacular frames the ability to toss a useless ability in favor of something that might be more useful.
New Warframe players will enjoy a brand new onboarding experience with Heart of Deimos. The new player experience has long been criticized in Warframe as overwhelming, but hopefully that will be addressed with what Digital Extremes has in store with the new expansion.
And Hydroid Prime has finally received a trailer, Warframe vets will be happy to note.
Heart of Deimos arrives August 25th on every platform Warframe is played on. And to get you primed for its arrival, Warframe is awarding double affinity from now until August 12th.
