On Star Wars Day, May 4, May, Disney+ will release an eight-episode documentary series known as Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. The series will look behind the scenes of the well-received Disney+ exclusive and demonstrate the process of creating the galaxy far far away.
While Star Wars fans are psyched, there are plenty of other films and TV shows that should receive this same treatment. Here are 10 Disney works that would benefit from receiving their own documentary series.
10 Falcon And The Winter Soldier
The first MCU series set to debut on Disney+ will focus on the next Captain America. There’s clearly a story to tell about the bigger picture and the production decisions here.
It would be exciting to see how this first ever high-budget Marvel Studios TV series is made and what direction they choose to take these characters in. It would be great to launch alongside the release of the show.
9 Pixar’s SparkShorts
SparkShorts, the initaitive in which Pixar employees are given limited time and budget to create and produce a short film, has been very well-received. The idea is genius, and it’s fantastic that these talented animators were given such creative control.
Luckily, it has already been announced that docuseries covering the Sparkshorts process is in the works.
8 Mulan
Mulan is one of the biggest productions at Disney in terms of their live-action reboots. The film is going in a completely different direction compared to the original animated version, which is still considered a classic.
The film’s release date has been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, so perhaps to help fans anticipate the film even more, a Gallery series could whet their appetite.
7 Black Widow
Natasha Romanoff is finally getting her own film, although its release has also been delayed. The much-anticipated film could benefit from a docuseries in this Gallery style, especially since this film will be kicking off the next phase of Marvel.
An in-depth look at the characters and production could be really fun and showcase what’s in store for Phase 4 of this massive interconnected universe. The Taskmaster would be an especially great part to focus on.
6 Onward
This Pixar movie had a short run before mass closure of cinemas put an end to its box office possibilities. But the good news is that Onward is now streaming on Disney+. In order to give it the attention it deserves, a Gallery series could be a great fit.
Oftentimes there is behind-the-scenes coverage on the DVD release of a Pixar film. A whole docuseries could go even more in-depth and explore some other aspects of the production that demonstrate the talented team behind the film.
5 Frozen 2
A Gallery season covering this hit sequel would be a boon, both for the streaming service and the Frozen brand itself. The popular franchise certainly deserves a proper documentary about its production and it may be a great way to show the genuine love that went into making the amazing sequel.
4 Artemis Fowl
Another Disney film that will be released straight to Disney+, Artemis Fowl could benefit from the increased marketing from the show and perhaps introduce viewers to the novels if they weren’t already aware of them.
It seems many fans are questioning the choices of the movie and perhaps a Gallery series could demonstrate why some of those decisions had to be made in the production process.
3 Phineas And Ferb
This animated series really took the world by storm and is one of the most popular animated shows from Disney among both younger and older audiences. There have been plenty of episodes and specials over the years.
But with a film heading to Disney+ that will revisit these popular characters, it would be great to finally have a deep look into the making of this popular show and the story behind its success.
2 Jungle Cruise
Jungle Cruise has the potential to be another major franchise for the Walt Disney company, as like Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s based on one of their most recognizable rides from Disney Parks. With huge names like the Rock and Emily Blunt there’s a lot to explore about this film.
One of the highlights of production is that the set being used is one of the biggest that has ever been built for film. This level of detail certainly deserves some extra attention from a unique documentary like this.
1 Cruella
Cruella is another live-action offering from the House of Mouse, and very little is known about this project. There have been a few stills released and of course, there is the casting of Emma Stone, but beyond this the direction is unclear of the relatively new project.
As a way to market the movie before its release, this could be a fun way to explore why the studio is retelling this story and what technology is in place in order to tell this story in a more effective way compared to the previous 101 Dalmatians iterations.
