LEC summer finals have been cancelled and moved!

Riot Games and the LEC announced on May 26th that the LEC finals occurring in Malmö, Sweden would be getting cancelled and moved to another undecided location. This cancellation does not mean that the finals will not be occurring, but what it does mean is that the LEC and Riot are unsure whether or not the finals will be taking place in a physical location or occur online – like the Spring Split finals were.

In this announcement, the LEC and Riot did say that future discussions will be had in regards to the Summer Split finals. This means that depending on health code regulations and rules, the finals may very well return to a physical location. However, as it stands today, the summer split finals are to be held online and not in a physical location because of health code laws and regulations revolving around COVID-19.

Along with the news regarding the Summer Split finals, the LEC team also discussed the Summer split as a whole and how it will look, come first week. Stating that the LEC studio in Berlin will be open in some capacity and will allow production teams and crews the opportunity to run the broadcast directly from the studio. The LEC did say that that they will abide by social distancing rules and health guidelines, in order to ensure the entire crews safety.

The players on the other hand will not be returning to the studio in Berlin, but will continue to play from their respective training facilities. LEC’s and Riot’s reasoning behind this is simple, and is in relation to health code violations, as they stated that players would force Riot and the LEC to have more employees in the studio to deal with the players and deal with production. Which means that the studio would become less safe and less manageable for all parties involved.

Along with that news, the LEC also stated that fans will not be allowed into the Berlin studio for the time being, as they see it being too much of a health issue and risk to allow fans into the studio.

Overall, the LEC concluded its statement saying that it values the health and safety of all its staff, players and audience members over anything else, and that they will continually be evaluating the threat of COVID-19 and how they can best deal with it, while also providing the best entertainment possible.
