Dont Transfer Dratini A Guide To Pokémon GOs JumpStart Special Research

Niantic released a nice Pokémon GO surprise this weekend in the form of an easy quest chain that gives amazing rewards. It’s called the Jump-Start Special Research, and completing it will give you amazing XP rewards, rare Pokémon like Dratini and Lapras, and even a guaranteed shiny Eevee!

The best part about the Jump-Start Special Research is that the tasks are all pretty straightforward. You probably already know how to do things like send a gift or participate in a raid. That being said, there are several things you can do to make the process fly by and get your shiny Eevee as soon as possible. So here are all the steps of Jump-Start Special Research, and how to do them as quickly as possible.

Dont Transfer Dratini A Guide To Pokémon GOs JumpStart Special Research

Stage 1 – The Basics

  • Make a new friend
  • Catch 3 Pokémon with weather boost
  • Hatch an egg

Hatching an egg is just a matter of putting something in an incubator and walking. Use a 2km egg if you want it to go by quickly. Weather-boosted Pokémon are all over the place, just look for the swirly ring under them on the world map. As for making a friend, you can actually delete a friend you already have and re-add them. You’ll keep whatever level of friendship you had before, and it will count towards the task.

Stage 2 – Don’t Transfer Dratini!

  • Earn a candy walking with your buddy
  • Take a snapshot of Dratini
  • Evolve a Dratini

Completing Stage 1 will reward you with a Dratini. You might already have one. You might have even already evolved it into a mighty Dragonite. Even so, you’ll want to keep this Dratini around because you will need it for this stage and a later one. So star that Dratini once you catch it. Even after you evolve it to complete the third task, keep it around. It’ll be important in the final Stage…

As for the buddy walking task, you can walk anything. Choose a nice 1km buddy like Burmy. If you’re like me, you need the extra Burmy candy anyway.

Stage 3 – The Gloves Come Off

  • Power up a Pokémon 10 times
  • Battle another Trainer in the Great League
  • Battle in a raid

There’s not too much you can do here to speed things up. Choose a one star raid if you really want to get that one out of the way now. Other than that, do what you do, and on to the next one.

Stage 4 – A Literal Walk In The Park

  • Catch 5 different species of Pokémon
  • Catch a Legendary Pokémon from a Field Research Breakthrough or Raid
  • Hatch 3 eggs

This one is also simple, and can really be done with a walk in the nearest park. That’s because parks are known to be chosen as gym locations. That means you can visit to take part in a Legendary raid and hatch some eggs as you take a nice stroll. You’re also sure to encounter at least five different species of Pokémon along the way.

Alternatively, if you really want to avoid the summer sun, you can hit up a Starbucks. The coffee chain is another location that almost always hosts a gym. There, you can sip a cool drink in comfort and maybe even deploy a lure or incense to make those five different species come to you. This strategy won’t help you hatch eggs, however…

Stage 5 – The Real Reward Is The Friends We Made Along The Way

  • Take a snapshot of Eevee
  • Send 5 gifts to friends
  • Trade 3 Pokémon with a friend

This stage is all about friendship, so we hope you have a few Pokémon GO buddies. The Eevee snapshot is easy because you literally just caught a shiny Eevee from completing Stage 4. Catch some fodder, whatever is spawning in your neighborhood, to trade three times with a friend at a minimum Stardust cost. The more friends you have, the more gifts you can send in a day. Time to get out and exchange some friend codes.

Stage 6 – I Told You Not To Transfer Dratini

  • Make a new friend
  • Win a level 3 or higher raid
  • Evolve a Dragonair

Here’s where that Dratini from before comes into play. Now it should be a Dragonair, since you evolved it back in Stage 2. Since you followed our advice and held onto it since then, you can now evolve it into a Dragonite. Like before, you can just delete a friend and re-add them to finish task one.

That’s it! Enjoy your XP and Stardust rewards, and thanks for reading. If you take no other lesson from this guide, remember to NEVER TRANSFER DRATINI!
