The voice cast of DuckTales offers a dramatic interpretation of the show’s theme song, giving the tune a distinctly different vibe. A reboot of the 1980s animated series of the same name, which has garnered praise for successfully updating the original by focusing on developing deeper stories for the characters, DuckTales premiered in 2017. The show also updated its classic theme song, removing its occasionally melancholy elements for a more consistently energetic tempo. The alteration has proved to be a hit. The theme, sung by Felicia Barton, has garnered well over 17 million views on YouTube.

But in a performance of their own, the voice cast of the animated adventure took a different approach with the lyrics. Along with the announcement that the Disney XD series would end its run on March 15, a video was posted that included the likes of Danny Pudi, Paget Brewster, and David Tennant doing a dramatic reading of the DuckTales song. You can check it out, from Disney Channel PR, below.

One last Zoom, one last time, the #DuckTales cast teaches ’em how to say goodbye…and woo-oo what a fun and memorable ride it’s been with #DavidTennant, @dannypudi, @rejectedjokes, @bibbymoynihan, @katemicucci, @becbenit, @ToksOlagundoye and @pagetpaget. pic.twitter.com/tXZDz0gsKS

The video illustrates that the motivational and exciting words that make up the theme can be skewed with the right delivery. Pudi, who voices Huey, adds an ominous layer to the lyrics. Bobby Moynihan, who does the voice of Louie, sounds utterly indifferent to the wonders of Duckburg. Considering that The Powerpuff Girls are getting an edgy reboot at The CW, the playful performances suggest that perhaps DuckTales could find a new life down the road as a grimmer and scarier series.

For now, DuckTales fans can look forward to the 90-minute series finale. The episode is slated to include the returning voices of Amy Sedaris, Catherine Tate, Giancarlo Esposito, Jameela Jamil, Julie Bowen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Margo Martindale, Jason Mantzoukas, Paul F. Tompkins, Stephanie Beatriz, and a host of others.
