In typical Dungeons & Dragons though, the lore is extremely rich so it’s no surprise that Wulfgar has some hidden stories that many of you won’t have known!

The poor but mighty barbarian has been through a lifetime of struggles, love, slavery, and on a few occasions, crime. All that being said, it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll love Wulfgar so much more after learning these facts. This awesome barbarian is filled with power, but also secrets, some of which are a little odd.

10 Part of the Tribe of the Elk

As it is with most barbarians, Wulfgar was part of a pretty powerful tribe within Icewind Dale. His father was a prominent member of the Tribe of the Elk which allowed Wulfgar to be held in pretty high regard.

From a young age, Wulfgar was given the job of flag bearer, which was a huge honor and it undeniably helped shape him as a person. Interestingly, Wulfgar began his life in the Elk tribe and spent his last days doing the same.

9 Saved By Bruenor

A few of you may already know that the legendary Bruenor Battlehammer treats Wulfgar as his own son, but the beginning of their unbreakable relationship wasn’t as loving as you may think. Ultimately, the Elk tribe and many of the other barbarian tribes of Icewind Dale launched an attack on the Ten Towns. Drizzt caught wind of this attack and warned Bruenor, allowing the Dwarves to get the drop on the barbarians.

Most of the tribe was completely wiped out and the Dwarves chose to kill the surviving but injured barbarians left defeated. Ultimately, Bruenor chose against this and instead took Wulfgar into his care, making him a slave for five years and a day. They formed a bond as father and son, making them as close as they are in Dark Alliance.



8 Nearly Married Catti-brie

If you’ve read The Crystal Shard, it will come as no surprise that Wulfgar nearly married Catti-brie. After all, he was seen to have feelings for her as soon as he arrived and settled in his life working for Bruenor.

Eventually, the two were engaged and fully in love, but after Wulfgar sacrificed his freedom to let Catti-brie escape he was driven mad for six horrible years. After escaping and reuniting with Catti-brie his mind was changed. In anger and frustration he ended up hitting Catti-brie and through shame left his life behind, where Catti-brie ended up falling for Drizzt and Wulfgar for a lady called Delly Curtie.

7 Married Delly Curtie

During his time away, Wulfgar worked as a bouncer for a tavern in Luskan and met a young girl who ended up falling for him. This woman, known as Delly Curtie, followed Wulfgar along his travels and inspired him to be a better man.

The two never had a child together, instead, they took a child under their care, just like Bruenor did to him. Unfortunately, Delly was killed while following Wulfgar on his adventures, he mourned her loss and gave her a proper burial.

6 A Sentient Sword Killed His Wife

While it was never safe, to begin with, Delly still followed Wulfgar through all his adventures. So when he met back up with Catti-brie it was hard for Delly to look past the clear chemistry the two had. After confronting Catti-brie about her jealousy she ended up losing a battle of wills with Catti-brie’s sword, Khazid’hea. This control led Delly to leave Colson with Catti-brie and wander off into the world unsafe and alone.

Ultimately, the sword drove Delly north and forced her to be killed by a group of Orcs after the sword chose a better and more powerful creature to wield it.

5 He Has The Strongest Weapon Bruenor Made

Once in their lifetime, a Dwarf will create a weapon that will be the best they will ever make, it is known to take weeks of work in an almost hallucinogenic state. It’s pretty much the peak of their blacksmithing skill and something that every Dwarfs wishes to do.

When Bruenor began this ritualistic process he created the legendary Aegis Fang which contained great magic and was an incredibly powerful Warhammer. In typical Bruenor fashion, he gave this unique weapon to Wulfgar. It’s the weapon you see him wielding in Dark Alliance.

4 He Didn’t Always Live An Honest Life

While Wulfgar may look like the kind and caring type who will always fight for the right thing. However, this wasn’t always the case, but it’s worth mentioning this was after six years of torture. Nevertheless, Wulfgar ended up being exiled from Luskan after being caught up in an assassination attempt on Captian Deudermont, and he and his friend, Morik became highwaymen for a few months.

Poor Wulfgar ended up landing himself in a considerable amount of trouble while he was on his own and ended up being falsely accused of assaulting a woman named Lady Meralda who was instead cheating on her husband. Nevertheless, he took the child under his wing and looked after her as best as he could.

3 He Adopted A Child

Wulfgar and Delly ended up taking Lady Meraldas’s child into their care and named her Colson. They both rased her and seemed to love her as their own, just like Bruenor did to Wulfgar. There were many times in which Colson was put into danger but ultimately, Wulfgar would always put his daughter in front of his own life.

After the unfortunate death of Delly, Wulfgar decided it would be best to take Colson back to her parents so she can live a safe and full life, something the adventuring lifestyle couldn’t offer her.

2 He Was Reincarnated

In typical D&D fashion, death is hardly ever permanent. And while Wulfgar actually worshiped Tempus, his death allowed him to share the same afterlife as Catti-brie, which was given to him by the Goddess Mielikki. However, after a few decades in the beautiful afterlife, the group were met with a choice. Be reborn to help save Drizzt’s life or pass on to Tempus’ warrior afterlife. Wulfgar did initially want to go to the warrior afterlife but his loyalty to Drizzt allowed him to be reincarnated. He was reborn as Hrolf, the son of Alfarin, who was a prominent member of the Tribe of the Elk.

Thankfully, Wulfgar did end up settling back down into the Tribe of the Elk, fathering an impressive four children, of which only three survived. After a while, he ended up with three children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In traditional barbarian style, his two daughters married into the Bear and Seal tribes which helped ally the three tribes together. His only son, aptly named by Bruenorson became the chieftain of the Elk tribe. So overall, Wulfgar didn’t do too badly with the family he ended up with!
