Players of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are enjoying the movement animations for Ekans, with many comparing the character to a Roomba robot vacuum. The newly-released remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl allow pocket monsters to follow their trainers around the world, and while many Pokémon walk with style and purpose, snake-Pokémon Ekans’ movements have left fans laughing.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl released to mixed reviews in November. While many have been enjoying their return to the Sinnoh region with new features and graphics, others have struggled amidst a host of bugs and glitches. One such glitch has seen players stuck behind NPCs and set pieces such as rocks, forcing some to quit their game to escape the situation. Though some bugs have been problematic, other glitches have caused a lot of amusement for fans, including a glitch that sees Team Galactic steal players’ Pokémon.

Shared on the Pokémon subreddit, user UrFriendlySpider-Man’s video of Ekans following them around Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has been met with laughter from fans. The clip shows an out-of-ball Ekans dutifully following its trainer, but since the pocket monster doesn’t have legs, the animation simply shows the curled-up character sliding along the ground as if being pulled by a string. The user mocked the walking animation, writing:

“Why is no one talking about this hilariously bad ekans [sic] following animation? I can’t be the only person who genuinely likes ekans and arbok [sic] and chose to have it follow me, only to be greeted by this.”

The hilarious post has seen over 40,000 upvotes from amused Pokémon fans, with many commenters comparing the movement to a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner. The player has even stated that they’ll be changing their Ekans’ name to Roomba in honor of the funny comparison. Over on Twitter, Stephanie Sterling has also joked about Ekans’ movements, tweeting: “I think they nailed Ekans’ animation here.”

The Ekans animation may be a funny one, but it does raise questions over the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes. The games’ general lack of polish and bugs have many purchasers questioning whether the remakes were rushed and unfinished, and Ekans’ arguably sloppy movement animation could be indicative of a wider problem. While animating a snake in any other way might have contrasted with the games’ graphics and overall style, lots of players have been left wondering if the animation shows an oversight on the part of the developer.

It’s hoped the developer is planning to patch out a number of game bugs and glitches in order to improve player experience, which could mean Ekans and Arboks’ animations may change later in the games’ lifecycle. There are currently a number of exploits and glitches that are likely to be higher on the team’s agenda right now, including a Pokémon duplication exploit that allows users to not only clone rare Pokémon, but also items they’re holding. It’s not known if any fixes are on the way, but hopefully, fans will find out more soon.
