Eleven More Shadow Pokémon Announced For Pokémon Go

Team Rocket has invaded Pokémon Go and has corrupted some of the Pokémon in the game, turning them into shadow Pokémon. The game recently released eleven new shadow Pokémon for players to catch and purify.

Team Rocket started by invading and taking over Pokéstops, stealing the items from them (never mind that the items from Pokéstops are free). They defended the Pokéstops with their brainwashed shadow Pokémon. Players could battle them to free the Pokéstops, then catch one of the shadow Pokémon and purify it. When Team Rocket invaded, the Pokémon they had brainwashed were Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Rattata, Snorlax, Mudkip, Dratini, and their evolutions, but now they have added more to their roster.

The new shadow Pokémon are Drowzee and its evolution Hypno, Grimer and its evolution Muk, Houndour and its evolution Houndoom, Cubone, Poliwag, Magikarp, and Scyther. Most recently, shadow Ralts was added on this weekend’s Pokémon Go Community Day, when Ralts began to show up all around the world. Evolved versions of shadow Pokémon can also be obtained by evolving them before purifying them.

When a shadow Pokémon is purified, it gets several benefits. Purified Pokémon are easier to power up, with a 10% discount for both candy and stardust. Their level and IVs increase as well. Finally, they get a powerful normal-type move called Return, which is great for normal-type shadow Pokémon like Snorlax. Unfortunately, this means that any shadow Ralts that were caught on this weekend’s Community Day, they will not have the psychic-type move Synchronoise, like the other Ralts that appeared during this time.

Of course, some trainers may not want to purify their Pokémon. Pokémon Go players have embraced the “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” mentality, collecting as many Pokémon as they can, plus variants such as Pikachu with different types of hats. Shadow Pokémon are just another variant. They might not be as good in battle, but they certainly lend a spooky atmosphere to any gyms you put them in. And let’s face it, they just look cooler than the normal, purified versions. So feel free to catch these new shadow Pokémon and collect your evil team.
