Marvel’s latest Avengers series repeats a strange occurrence from Avengers Mech Strike – it takes Black Panther out of the fight early.

In the most recent Marvel comic series involving mech suits, Black Panther has been the first Avenger removed from the fight. Avengers: Tech-On #2 continues the pattern laid out by Avengers: Mech Strike. It seems like Kang the Conqueror and Red Skull may know something Earth’s mightiest heroes don’t – without T’challa, they’re in serious trouble.

Avengers Mech Strike was released earlier this year and was a limited series featuring the Avengers wearing mech suits. They fought against Kang the Conqueror. Now, Marvel is publishing a new mech suit-based limited series that stars many of the same heroes – including Black Panther. This time, however, they are fighting against a Red Skull who has been powered up by Infinity Shards.

Marvel’s latest issue in the series, Avengers: Tech-On #2, has the creative team of Jim Zub, C. Chamba, and Vc Travis Lanham. This issue, like the first issue of Avengers Mech Strike, finds a way to put Black Panther out of the way. In Mech Strike, Kang killed T’challa with his gauntlet without hesitation. Now, Red Skull has used a less fatal – though no less effective – way of occupying the African king’s time. Black Panther is going back to Wakanda, which is right where his foe wants him to be.

It seems rather odd that both series have temporarily removed the same character within the same year, before removing any other heroes first. No other characters have been forced out of the way in the manner that T’challa has. This could mean that Marvel’s villains know that he is their biggest threat of all – regardless of if anyone else has realized it. He shares many similarities with the other Avengers and could fill many spots if other heroes were to be removed or temporarily away from the team. In Avengers Mech Strike, T’challa DID prove to be Kang’s undoing – especially at a time when the Avengers didn’t have much left in their arsenal. If that pattern continues, Black Panther could once again be the key to undoing Red Skull’s plot.

Black Panther’s skillsets and resources encompass many aspects that the other Avengers do. His suit is protective and his sister – as well as Wakanda as a whole – is brilliant and technologically advanced. They can perform research, track threats, and develop helpful new technology, just like Tony Stark frequently does. He is an enhanced individual, like many of his fellow heroes. This makes Black Panther extra strong and extra fast. His suits have also proven to be capable of causing damage to his foes and highly effective at preventing serious wounds – eliminating a need for a healing factor. He is clawed and while his aren’t as long as Wolverine’s, he can attack somewhat similarly. He is a leader, like Captain America, and has a powerful, royal lineage, like Thor.

In many ways, Black Panther is the ultimate hero package, which makes him one of the biggest threats to his foes. However, he also puts protection of his home as an utmost priority, which does make him easy to take out of the picture if a big enough threat is posed. Marvel’s villains know better than to tangle with the Avengers when they have Black Panther directly in their ranks and they’ve taken measures to prevent him from getting in their way.
