Fire Emblem: Three Houses has been incredibly successful on the Nintendo Switch. Not only has it sold over 2.5 million copies, but it’s currently one of the highest rated games available for the console. It has a passionate fan-base, and a few of those fans have decided to remake — or should we say demake — Three Houses as a Game Boy Advance title.

What started out as a short video of the game’s prologue, reimagined using classic GBA graphics, has morphed into a massive project. The dev team said that the “…prologue video on YouTube was supposed to stay a one-shot… It’s honestly amazing that so many people are willing to help out and are interested in seeing something like this come to fruition.”

The crew is periodically releasing progress videos to show off their latest creation. One such video features a GBA-style remix of the main theme and even a complete battle sequence. Although there are currently no plans for early access, the team might release a demo version that includes all content leading up to the time skip.

Wisely, the demake has decided to not include all portions of the game. The developers are instead focusing solely on the Blue Lions story, as it is the “most self-contained.” Of course, if the game is wildly successful, don’t be surprised to see the other two Houses make an appearance. Opting to develop just one storyline makes sense, however, as trying to rebuild the entirety of Three Houses would be a massive challenge. The title currently does not have a release date, but we don’t expect a public launch anytime soon. If you’d like to stay up to date on the game’s progress, you can check out the team’s Discord.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be receiving an official expansion — called Cindered Shadows — on February 13th. The content will include a secret fourth house called the Ashen Wolves and will be played on a separate save file. This means that anyone can jump in and enjoy the action without having to build up a powerful team. As a nice bonus, players will be able to recruit students from the Ashen Wolves when playing on their save file for the main storyline.
