Ubisoft, the developer of Far Cry 6, has confirmed that the latest game in the series will also feature some third-person gameplay. The studio released the first gameplay trailer for Far Cry 6 last week, which not only gave fans their first glimpse of the new game’s combat but also some of its characters and locations. Alongside the gameplay reveal, Ubisoft also announced that players will be able to explore the entire island of Yara, the open-world setting of Far Cry 6.

Alongside its gameplay showcase, Ubisoft also revealed the release date of Far Cry 6, which will now be on October 7, 2021, for PC, console, and cloud gaming services. The game was initially scheduled for a February 2021 release when it was unveiled in July of last year, but the studio eventually announced its delay, which was due to the ongoing global pandemic. The company also recently confirmed that Far Cry 6 already has a DLC roadmap planned out and is set to be announced at a later date.

Gamespot recently asked Far Cry 6 narrative director Navid Khavari about the gameplay’s perspective switches. According to Khavari, its main purpose is to showcase the main character Dani’s story better and create a greater connection between the character and the player. It will also allow players to see and appreciate their character customization further. In Far Cry 6, players will not only be able to choose Dani’s gender but also customize their clothing and Supremo backpack to an extent.

Khavari confirmed some of the instances where the game shifts perspectives. Apart from the cutscenes, players will play in third-person whenever they’re inside guerilla camps, which act as the game’s safe zones and quest hubs where players can not only take missions but also perform other in-game tasks and mini-games. This means players will be able to see their Dani as they speak to other characters in the camps. Lastly, the game also shifts to a third-person perspective whenever the player uses their Supremo backpack in combat.

Adding a third-person perspective to Far Cry 6, despite being limited to certain instances, is definitely a huge and potentially positive change for the long-running series. It’s one of the few significant changes, along with its bigger and more open world, that Ubisoft could possibly introduce into the series in the long run.
