The original Dying Light was full of Easter eggs of all kinds, and Techland has officially confirmed the sequel will deliver more of the same.

Players generally love Easter eggs, especially those that can stay hidden for years, like this Mass Effect 3 Mars rover Easter egg, discovered only in the recently released Legendary Edition. Being players themselves, the developers also love to implement some clever references here and there. Dying Light 2: Stay Human will follow the beaten path, throwing at you all kinds of medium allusions to other movies, games, and all in between.

Techland’s lead level designer Piotr Pawlaczyk spoke to MP1st about the case and gave a perfectly satisfactory response. In his words, “Dying Light 2 will be full of Easter eggs.” Pawlaczyk revealed the team will “reach some fresh and classic movie hits” and “will blink an eye on many games.” But most of all, the fans of the series should expect a handful of references to the original game.

Speaking of Dying Light Easter eggs, they were almost all found, Pawlaczyk confirmed. Given the title was originally released more than eight years ago, it’s hardly a surprise.

Piotr Pawlaczyk also briefly talked about the technical benefits players will get in Dying Light 2 on next-gen platforms. According to him, the team is very excited about ray-tracing in the game’s Quality mode, which significantly improves the quality of the scene with an emphasis on environment lighting. For those who appreciate smooth parkour and combat, there will be Performance mode, offering a frame rate beyond 60 FPS. This would be possible on Xbox Series platforms thanks to VRR (variable refresh rate) support.

This was previously implemented in Microsoft Flight Simulator, where you could get up to 120 FPS depending on the scene if your display was compatible with the technology. At the moment, VRR support is only available on PC and Xbox Series. PS5 owners who want to take advantage of their screens with VRR will have to wait until Sony includes the feature in future software updates.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human will launch on December 7. Those who purchase the game on PS4 and Xbox One can expect a free next-gen upgrade.
