Dominic Toretto serves as the central figure of the Fast & Furious franchise, but not every notable moment of his life has been featured in the movies. Vin Diesel made his debut in 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, the saga’s first installment. Aside from his appearance in six subsequent sequels, the actor also emerged as a driving force behind the film series, acting as a key producer. Diesel will soon be seen reprising his role as Dom for F9, a film set to release in 2021.
When The Fast Saga launched, Dom was in his mid to late twenties, leading a street race crew in Los Angeles. His next major movie in the franchise came in 2009’s Fast & Furious, an installment that was set five years after the original. This created a big gap in terms of Dom’s story arc before he reunited with Brian O’Conner for a series of worldwide heists. It wasn’t uncommon for the movies to feature time jumps, but thankfully, the franchise made an effort to fill in the gaps.
In addition to the ongoing film series, Fast & Furious has expanded the franchise with an animated series and two short films. The show, titled Fast & Furious Spy Racers, hit Netflix in 2019 and focused on Tony Toretto, the younger cousin of Dom. Diesel reprised his role in voice form for multiple appearances in the show. He notably recommended Tony and his cousin’s crew to do special missions for Ms. Nowhere, a secret agent. As for short films, Diesel didn’t directly appear in The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious, and instead, it followed Brian between the first two movies. Dom, however, was the main focus of 2009’s Los Bandoleros, a short written and directed by Diesel.
Los Bandoleros Filled In Some Gaps With Dom’s Arc
Los Bandoleros, which is Spanish for “outlaws,” detailed the events that led up to 2009’s Fast & Furious. After Brian gave Dom the keys to his Supra at the end of The Fast and the Furious, Dom fled Los Angeles, relocating to Baja, Mexico. While there, Dom met Han Lue, and the two became quick friends before traveling to the Dominican Republic. The pair then encountered Armando, another friend who assisted Dom’s crew in Fast Five and Furious 7. Dom also befriended a few other figures in the Dominican Republic including Tego Leo, Rico Santos, Cara Mirtha, and a man named Malo. Not only did Dom help break Leo out of prison, but he also made a deal with a corrupt politician to hijack a gas shipment on the highway so the fuel went to the general public.
At one point, Dom was shown at a nightclub when he was surprised by the arrival of Letty Ortiz, his longtime love interest. The pair rekindled their romance by the end of Los Bandoleros, but it apparently went further than that. Despite not being featured in the short film, Dom and Letty got married in the Dominican Republic. Rather than rings, Dom gave Letty his silver cross, a symbolic piece of jewelry in the Fast & Furious franchise. This event was confirmed in the flashback scene featured in Furious 7.
