10 Masamune

Most people think of Sephiroth’s massive sword when they picture the Masamune in Final Fantasy. It’s to be expected, given the iconic stature of Sephiroth as the most popular antagonist in the history of Final Fantasy.

Of course, the Masamune has existed for a long time and still features in the title’s modern games. It’s one of the most memorable swords in the series by a country mile.

9 Gunblade

At a glance, the Gunblade looks like one of the most illogical weapons out there. However, in a series named Final Fantasy, it’s obvious that spectacle takes precedence over practicality.

As a result, the Gunblade has become iconic despite its hilarious design. Watching Squall slice enemies while blasting them with his gun makes for such an awesome image that no one would care about how impractical this weapon really is.

8 Save The Queen

Beatrix is one of the best Final Fantasy characters of all time, even though she’s not a member of the main cast. It’s a testament to how well-written she is, and finally getting the ability to control her in Final Fantasy 9 was an absolute treat.

It helped that her weapon was extremely fun to use and had a cool design too. Save the Queen is a pretty awesome name as well, which instantly established this sword as one of the most memorable blades to feature in a Final Fantasy game.

7 Brotherhood

Final Fantasy’s first foray into the PS2 era was nothing short of a brilliant success. Final Fantasy 10 told a compelling story with Tidus at the helm, who had an iconic weapon of his own that looked absolutely striking.

The Brotherhood almost looks like a sword with water inside it, making it a fascinating and iconic weapon to look at. Most people might not be huge fans of Tidus, but even his harshest critics have a soft spot for this sword.

6 Excalibur

The Excalibur is a legendary sword that has been represented in Final Fantasy throughout most of its games. It appeared as one of the strongest weapons that players could wield in old games, with its stature becoming so legendary that powerful summons also started wielding this powerful weapon.

The hilariously-titled Excalipoor started off as a joke weapon. However, its appearance in Final Fantasy 5 and subsequent titles established it as a legendary blade in its own right.

Watching Gilgamesh fail with this weapon in what is otherwise a tense boss fight makes for one of the most memorable moments in the game. This, coupled with the endearing annoyance of this weapon, has made it a fan favorite.

4 Zantetsuken

The Zantetsuken is a blade that has become a trademark of Odin’s character. Watching him slice enemies in half with this blade over and over again never fails to be entertaining in any Final Fantasy game.

Final Fantasy 6 is the only game to feature this blade as an equippable weapon, and is an absolute blast to use. It has a 25 percent chance of causing instant death with its attacks and has a unique death animation of its own as well.

3 Lionheart

While Squall’s base Gunblade is pretty neat to look at in its own right, the real potential of his battle aptitude is released once you get the Lionheart. It’s Squall’s ultimate weapon and wastes no time in making its presence notable with a striking blue blade.

Of course, it would be impossible to talk about the Lionheart without mentioning its eponymous Limit Break that is unlocked, as a result. Whipping out this Limit Break in battle is easily one of the most engaging moments in a Final Fantasy game by a long way.

2 Buster Sword

Cloud’s famous Buster Sword has become the stuff of legends, with this massive and iconic blade becoming synonymous with the protagonist of Final Fantasy 7. The Buster Sword might be the weakest weapon in Cloud’s arsenal, but don’t let this take away from its iconic stature.

This gigantic blade looks downright impossible to wield, making it even funnier when Cloud spins this weapon around dramatically after emerging victorious from a battle. Thankfully, given the nature of the Final Fantasy series, suspension of disbelief isn’t really all that hard in this context.

1 Ultima Weapon

The Ultima Weapon has appeared several times throughout the Final Fantasy series. It’s almost always the most powerful weapon whenever it’s featured in any game.

The name of this weapon might differ at times, but the core of its origin remains intact. Suffice to say, any player who wants to max out their attack potential in any Final Fantasy game should seek out the Ultima Weapon or a variant of it.
