The official box art for Final Fantasy VII Remake has been revealed and it’s a replica of the cover used for the North American version of the original game that was released back in 1997.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2020, and Square Enix has been releasing a deluge of new footage and information about the game. A lengthy gameplay trailer was released during E3 2019 and more footage was shown during the Tokyo Game Show, with the game seemingly in a near-finished state and ready to hit its March release date.

Square Enix has issued a press release that has revealed the official box art for the European and North American versions of the game. The box art is a recreation of the cover used for the North American version of Final Fantasy VII, with Cloud staring up at the Shinra HQ. The same artwork was recently unveiled on September 7 to celebrate the anniversary of the North American release of the original game and it has been re-purposed for the new cover.

It’s clear that the box art isn’t the final version of the product, as it’s lacking any official age rating. It’s also unlikely that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be the full title of the game, as it’s going to be part of a series of remakes for Final Fantasy VII.

Square Enix has also released a new gameplay video showing the boss battle against Abzu (also known as Aps in Final Fantasy VII), which includes Aerith, Cloud, and Tifa fighting alongside each other. Cloud also summons Ifrit to help in the battle, which means that the summons will be introduced at a much earlier point in the game.

Final Fantasy VII Remake was first announced during E3 2015, but there was almost no new information revealed about the game until 2019. The fact that the game now has official box art and gameplay footage makes it feel as if the release date is just around the corner.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is due to be released for PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020.
