In a move from the stylized plastic collectors love to the digital realm of casual gaming, new match-3 puzzle game Funko Pop! Blitz with a signature pop culture bent has made its way onto the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. It’s probably not the crossover that hardcore Pop! fans have been anticipating, but it seems like a competent effort in the mobile space by developers N3TWORK and Tic Toc Games.

Funko Pop! Blitz launches today on mobile platforms, bringing puzzle gameplay in the vein of Candy Crush with a media-minded twist. The new game replaces the usual Puyos and candy pieces with the chibi faces of pop culture icons in what N3TWORK refers to as the “ultimate pop culture mashup game.” At launch, the game will feature digitized Pops from Universal Pictures’ film classics Back to the Future and Jurassic Park to Dreamworks’ Kung Fu Panda and Shrek, and even the likes of Care Bears will get in on the mellow action.

A mobile game like Funko Pop! Blitz seems like a no-brainer for the collectible world juggernaut, as the market is cheap to develop for and easy to profit widely from. That said, the puzzler is entering a space knee-deep in competition and will have to compete with the likes of Nintendo’s Mario Kart Tour and Super Mario Run and the formidable mobile domineer that is the Clash franchise, so its success will depend on whether or not the developers can keep the game flush with recognizable properties at the same rate that Funko keeps real-world store shelves stocked.
