Though similar to Hotel Hell and Kitchen Nightmares, this show ups the ante and challenges Ramsay to save restaurants that are on the brink of disaster in just 24 hours. To add to the excitement, this series requires Ramsay to go undercover in disguises. Some of which are simply wild.

From feuding families to filthy kitchens and untrained staff, there are no dull moments on this show. While most episodes have a rocky start, Ramsay accomplishes the seemingly impossible. He transforms restaurants, revamps their menus, and retrains staff just in time for a grand reopening. This is no easy feat, and here are 10 of the most disgusting kitchens Gordon helped get back on track to prove it!

10 Bella Gianna’s: Season 1

Nothing screams crazy more than the owner of Bella Gianna’s. The series began with a bang at this failed Italian eatery. The bang being, Gordon Ramsay dropping F-bombs because of Bella Gianna’s filthy kitchen and ill-tempered owner, Vinny.

Once inside, Ramsay dealt with Vinny, an owner who yells at staff and customers. However, the kitchen was the worst part. Filthy, it was filled with black mold and had what Ramsay described as the “smelliest food walk-in he ever experienced.” In fact, it was so filthy Ramsay and his camera crew started gagging at the walk-in’s smell. Fortunately, Ramsay was able to turn Bella Gianna’s around by counseling Vinny through his anger issues, retraining the staff, and introducing a simplified menu with fresh food. These changes were significant and helped restore faith in the restaurant.

9 Brownstone Bistro: Season 1

When Ramsay travels to Brownstone bistro, he is met with Clive, a kind restaurant owner who lost the passion for his business when his son was fatally shot.

Though Clive is a kind soul, he has a dirty kitchen. Inside, Ramsay finds loads of grease which is a huge fire hazard. Additionally, fresh and rotting vegetables are mixed together and staff constantly use their phones while handling food. After rummaging through the mess, Ramsay gathers the staff and offers them training to perfect a new menu. Ramsay’s team gives the space a makeover but this time, with a special twist. They build a tree of hope in memory of Clive’s son making this episode a true tear-jerker.



8 Fetch Bistro: Season 1

Owners Greg and Pamela came up with a unique restaurant concept: dog-friendly restaurant owners can enjoy with their pets. Unfortunately, their execution was so poorly done it nearly ran them out of business.

The lack of rules for guests, staff, and canines, created dysfunction and an unsanitary environment. In the kitchen, both the dog food and human food were prepared in the same space causing confusion, filth, and a mess. Dog fur and human hair were found in Ramsay’s meal to which he was disgusted. To make matters worse, line chefs cooked without recipes, resulting in disastrous food. With Gordon’s help, boundaries were created to help separate humans from dogs.

7 The Trolley Stop Café: Season 2

The Trolley Stop Cafe ran rogue due to a hands-off owner. The staff was passionless and unorganized, and the food was absolutely terrible. This and much more about The Trolley Stop Cafe was unacceptable for Gordon Ramsay.

The restaurant’s kitchen shocked Ramsay and he called it “the most disgusting kitchen ever.” Within its walls, Ramsay made appalling discoveries and uncovered the most unsanitary conditions he had ever seen. This included mounds of crusty grease peeling off a 6-burner stovetop, a pool of mineral deposits from old food, moldy nacho cheese (which the restaurant served to Ramsay earlier that day), and smelly rancid meat sitting in a puddle of old blood. Angry and shocked, Ramsay gave the staff a taste of their own medicine by making them eat the moldy cheese and throwing rancid pieces of meat at them. It’s safe to say they cleaned up their act and kitchen after this.

6 Los Toros Mexican Restaurant: Season 2

Los Toros was once a successful restaurant that served-up classic family-style recipes from Mexico but it took a turn for the worst when the original owner passed away.


Thousands of dollars deep in debt, Los Toros was struggling to stay afloat. In addition to the financial stress, the restaurant is poorly maintained and terribly organized. Many guests, complained of food poisoning due to the kitchen’s lack of fresh food and filthy conditions. Inside, Ramsay uncovered mounds of rancid meat, rotting sea-food, expired condiments, and moldy vegetables – all still served to guests. Shocked by this he walks out of the kitchen in disgust. Luckily, he recollects himself and turns Los Toros around in time for their grand reopening.

5 Caneda’s White Rooster: Season 3

Gordon always serves up tough love but he did so especially at Caneda’s White Rooster: an eatery that once served up Cuban delicacies. When the owner Pati, started hiring in-experienced staff, the business went down the drain and customers became scarce.

Something Ramsay noticed immediately upon walking into the eatery is that the Cuban restaurant’s decor did not aesthetically scream, Cuban culture. Upon eating the dishes, he noticed that the food was not fresh and confirmed his speculation as soon as he entered the kitchen. His top finds were moldy fruits, rotting lettuce and veggies, and an abandoned bag of octopus that smelled so putrid Ramsay actually threw up. After calling the kitchen a “disgusting mess” Ramsay whips this restaurant back into shape.

4 Bear’s Den Pizza: Season 3

There is debate about which Gordon Ramsay show is best, but there really is nothing like 24 Hours To Hell And Back. This is clearer than ever when Gordon visits disastrous Bear’s Den Pizza. A pizza joint with an alcoholic owner and manager who does anything but manage.

Prior to Bear Den’s major transformation, Ramsay entered a nightmarish kitchen. He found ancient and dirty cooking gear including a dirty stovetop from the 1970s, an old industrial toaster that barely heated up pizzas, and the nastiest surprise of all, loads of rat droppings on top of the refrigerator that had built up for years. Prior to Ramsay’s arrival, Bear’s Den was serving up a piping hot plate of food poisoning.

3 Boardwalk 11: Season 2

Whether a fan of Kitchen Nightmares or 24 Hours To Hell And Back, there’s no denying that the restaurant owners on both shows don’t know what they’re doing. Restaurant/karaoke bar, Boardwalk 11 is the perfect example.

Boardwalk 11’s “delicacies” include rancid burgers with soggy buns and avocados so rotten they’ve turned into a brown paste. While touring the establishment, Gordon Ramsay discovered leaking goop and gunk in the kitchen’s corridors and crevices. Much of the food was rotting, expired, and rancid but this didn’t stop the staff from serving it to customers! Absolutely appalled, Ramsay huffs and puffs and gags and tells the lazy restaurant staff to get to work.

After taking one look at the kitchen, Ramsay is immediately angered by cross-contaminated surfaces the staff uses to cook a variety of meats. He also discovers that raw chicken is mixed with cooked food. Black mold covers the kitchen’s surfaces along with crusty gunk on the appliances. For Ramsay, this unsafe and unsanitary kitchen is a “warzone.” He immediately tells the staff to clean up their act and their kitchen.

1 Shanty On 19th: Season 2

Shanty On 19th is in Pennsylvania’s theatre district. Though its surroundings are filled with tourists, the Shanty’s curtains almost closed before Ramsay claimed his front-row seat.

Ramsay immediately called the eatery a “crude, run-down, shack.” As soon as Ramsay entered the kitchen, he saw it was not only littered with dirty containers but the staff cooked unsanitarily on dirty pots and pans. Worst of all, workers and chefs taste-tested food by licking their fingers and spitting food from their mouths back into bowls. Absolutely shocked, Gordon whipped the staff into shape but not before he dropped a few f-bombs.
